    Leak from oil pump

During the winter storage went to get the car out of the garage and i found a patch of oil on the floor. I have been starting it up and left it running for about a hour and a half every 2-3 weeks over winter no problem. After investigating i found a leak on the oil pump, so i take it that the rubber seal has perished. So my questions are. What are the chances of the studs on the manifold that hold the exhaust on snapping off, and if so do i get a new one?, if so how easy is it to fit and will i need a new gasket for the exhaust to manifold, ? Thanks for your help.

In my experience, it’s likely that at least one of the studs will break off unless you heat the nuts with a flame first. To avoid that problem I’ve been using brass nuts for years but even they can seize on the studs. Yes, you will need a new gasket. Unfortunately it’s not an easy situation - I’d try an make sure the oil pump bolts are fully tight before going to the trouble of taking it off.

Before you start looking to remove the oil pump, check that the oil is not in fact coming from either the oil transfer housing, or thr cam cover seals at the back of the rh head - oil from both of those places ends up dripping off the pump.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

+1 on wilfs comments, You say a leak in the oil pump.. is it definitely the pump to block seal or could it be the oil pressure relief valve which is a pretty common leak point. There is a seal there that can be replaced without removing the pump.

It can be done without taking the exhaust off you just have to take the oil pump apart on the car and put it back the same way so it comes off in 4 parts.

Thank you all for your thoughts, forget to say it only leaks when the engine isn't running.

My highly technical answer to a leak in this area is a drip tray filled with sand.

I recommend a long piece of old carpet which extends under every possible source of drips.

There was a small period of time in the 34 years of my current stag ownership, that it was leak free.
I was very worried that everything was empty.
                    True story

Ironically the current leak is from the zf 4sp. And I cannot see where abouts it’s escaping from.

I thought oil leaks were part of the Stag anti-corrosion system.
