Anyone here using Photogrammetry using meshroom ?
(or similar techniques)
This enquiry is related to stag parts recreation.
Intention is to use data as a check only.

It installed it on a Dell XPS 13 7390 with Intel Core i7-10510U CPU with 16GB RAM running Windows 10 Pro and the user interface seems to run ok - I don't know how to use it, of course, but it looks like it would work ok if I did. I haven't tried any of the other binaries - I could try macOS but am hesitant right now, as I rely on my Apple kit for work and have some urgent deliverables. Does your system meet the minimum hardware & software requirements?
Thanks phil.
im using windoze 10.
got an error ‘python37.DLL’ was not found.
but it is there!
also manually installed the python updates.
as per usual, have wasted far too long on it now.
just need to find someone who already has an application that can create a 3D scan to use for checking.
scanning cannot create a suitable file to use for tooling (unless it’s post processed @£ 000’s) but it is useful for checking.
Thanks Phil, I didn’t see your reply until this morning!
But I did try that fix last night too!
I also got a call from a contact who is a metrology specialist & does lots of scanning.
I was hoping he’d be available to do the required scans, but he’s away for 6 months & wasn’t interested at this time

Frustrating - you might have tried this already, but I spotted repair methods 3 and 6 at https://windll.com/dll/python-softwa...ation/python37 concerning Visual C ++ Redistributable Package and Registry issues. After that I agree its best to cut your losses in terms of spending more time on fixing your system.
Apparently there is a discussion forum for Alicevision/Meshroom at https://github.com/alicevision/meshroom/discussions - I wonder if you posted a request for an expert to help with the scans you might get a volunteer?
What graphics card are you using? Meshroom ideally requires an NVIDIA GTX card and a min 32GB RAM. I have it running on an old HP Z420 with a GTX and a newer HP Z2 with an RTX card. No problems installing it on either machine. I'm just starting to experiment with photogrammetry and 3D scanning with a Revopoint scanner to create objects for VR and AR in higher education. It's definitely a steep learning curve where technique is as important as the science.
I’ve made enquiries with contacts at Cranfield University to ask about expertise in Meshroom. There are three possible contacts.
One is using Meshroom at landscape scale, he also uses remote sensing software such as ERDAS Imagine for this work; the second uses Meshroom for small items, they have a photogrammetry rig with a revolving turntable; the third also has a super-detailed hand held laser scanner as well as a terrestrial laser scanner for creating 3D data of objects and scenes respectively.
If anyone would like an introduction please let me know by PM.
Brilliant help thanks.
The parts are all being scanned tomorrow.
Found a close ish chap who is already up & running.
The scans are only being used as a checking loop …. So can be very basic files….. maybe just cloud point. So very reasonable costs .
I wasted too much weekend on it to be fair
maybe worthwhile to follow up in the coming days.
Dont have space to have anything big or fancy at home.
Was hoping to get a phone & laptop to play ball for a basic scan.
with the A class surfaces we need, a scan isn’t a viable way to create the model…. It can be done though…. The quote for the grill to be scanned & turned into an a class surface was 8000 pounds to 10,000 pounds for the show side only…. So we just use the basic scan to check the form.

Quite often see unexpected arguments on here although they are thankfully fewer in frequency. The problem with the £ is probably phone or tablet related
