    Chris Witor's rear springs

    Hi All

I fitted a pair of Chris Witor progressive springs to the front of our Stag last year. I am now looking to replace the rear springs as the existing ones are 11 years old and starting to sag a bit. I am looking to fit 1" lowered springs again as I did in 2009. On Chris Witors website he offers 475lb abd 575lb springs, both 1" lowered.

Am I correct in thinking the 475 will be the ones to go for for normal driving and that the 575 ones are for more for people who do racing etc?

    Regards

    Hi Rubuce,
I am surprised your rear springs have sagged after 11 years. Mine although fully polybushed and rear Spax adjustable dampers is still on its original springs, No sagging. If you consistently carry a load and or prefer a flatter firmer ride go for the 575 ones.

      Hi Ian

The car has done 35,000 miles with the current springs and is polybushed. I think it looks down at the back when loaded up with gear for a long distance driving event. Here is a photo in Scotland whilst on last years RBRR. What do you think about the stance of the rear end?

I have entered on the 10 Countries Run which is a 5 day event in September. The event starts in France so its 11 countries if you include getting from and back to the UK. The car boot will be full of stuff whilst we are going up and down the Alpine Passes on that event hence me looking at the rear springs.

      Regards

Bruce.. Great shot. Think we stopped in a similar place on the rbrr in the TR. Maybe it will be a Saffron stag next time

I have been searching for the invoice for the Witor springs on my MK1.
They were the 475lb ones and don't sag much even when we are going on our continental camping/paragliding trips with the Stag literally filled to the roof!
Could only see the need for the stronger ones if you were towing a caravan.

My rears are 520lb springs, I put them on because of the trailer....I think they are specified by Chris for the 2000/2500 facelift Estate cars. Perfect for towing, loads of rubbish to the "recycling centre" and rallying.
