    New after market fuse box

I know we are not suppose to belittle traders, but not naming names and being polite, but What a load of rubbish this new fuse box is....electrical problems galore! Took it off and this is what I found....it was falling apart. I got 2 of these, going straight in the bin. I was told they were causing faults including fires!
    Should have listened.

p.s you may slag me off for saying so, but I don't care.

Crumbs the fire is worrying. Pleased that it didn't get to take hold!

Is that on the battery / ignition control fuse where all the white wires feed to?

Blade fuse box, most of the connectors were off and wires were off after fuse box was installed. When the clocks and indicators etc, etc were playing up, I decided to check the fuse box.

Maybe you should return to trader for full refund .Then at least the trader might be able to improve their product . (Fit for purpose ect.)

You've not given us much to go on - either descriptive or photographic evidence. All we've had is the slagging off of a supplier and a verbal rant, without justification.

I can only see arrows pointing to wire terminations - are these what your problem is?

I'm very surprised that the Mods haven't slapped your wrists. Certainly in my experience they're quick to jump on negative reports of poor products, even with full factual statements.

The main difference between the blade fuse board and original one is the terminals on the back of the board,on the original fuse board some terminals are doubled up,where on the blade one you need to piggy back spade terminals,
theres nothing wrong with the design, you just need to go through your wires going to the fuse board and replace the spade terminals

Is this as per previous post a old type glass fuse box or the new blade type.

I recently fitted the new blade type from a well known manufacturer and found it mechanically and electrically very good, The only down sides were single not double connections and poor fit of the old fuse box cover, but these were normal issues and easily remedied,

I have had no electrical issues even though I blew a couple of fuses due to my electrical miss-wiring. They were doing their job, especially the fuses that light up when blown. Very handy.

Is this the same fuse box you posted about recently that you have had since 2016 - so around 5 years ?

Looking at you pic the purple wire arrowed looks like an original and if it has "come adrift" then I would suggest the fault lies with the nearly 50 year old spade connector not being tight enough and not the fuse box. The other connector looks like a blade fuse connector and could have been dislodged which the blade fuses were fitted - some blade fuses can be " a bit tight" when inserting and a modicum of care and common sense should be employed to ensure that no damage is done to the holder and that the fuse is correctly inserted.

When connecting wires / inserting fuses it is good practice to make sure the connection is sound - by that I mean mechanically good so the connectors don't fall off which is easily achieved by some careful tweaking of old connectors with a pair of pliers and electrically good in terms of good insulation, and clean corrosion free joints. If you followed a systematic approach when fitting the fuse box then the issues you pictured should not have occurred. It would be a good investment of your time to go through each and every circuit connection and double check that it is secure and electrically sound. If you spend time f=doing that I think you will find a lot of your spurious electrical problems that you have asked about will go away.

In my opinion it is a bit tough on the supplier to start having a go at the product some 5 years after you purchased it.

After all, some of our fuseboxes are still working after fifty years, or have I just tempted fate there?

Like DMT above, I fitted a blade fusebox probably 4 years or so ago and have not suffered any electrical problems and it has proved reliable.

Putting the blame on the supplier of a product when the actual installation of that product would appear to be the root of the problems is quite sad, never mind its easy to lay the blame elsewhere rather than understanding where the problem lies.

Consider what Marshman has posted above and perhaps that points to the real issues you have been suffering.

Jonno. Instead of sniping at the moderators why don’t you volunteer to be one?
Maybe then you will see what a thankless task it is.

I acquired a NOS original fuse box over 20 years ago, when I had my first Stag, just in case. It is still in the spares box!

Come now John do you really think that Stagjonno has the time to be a Mod? I certainly do not have time for it but still do it.

To be frank I let the thread roll because Sukhi had an issue and I tried to establish root cause in my initial response, post #2, up at the top there, before all the wailing started.

To all those rushing to protect the un-named supplier (you do know there are a number of suppliers who sell these don't you? Car builder, vehicle wiring, he whom shall not be named etc etc etc), are you so wise that you can tell from the single picture which fuse board Sukhi has issue with?

As far as I can see the posting falls within the new rules and regs for dealing with product issues in general.

Try stop the wailing and maybe offer some help or advise as to why the issue started in the first place.

For Frith's sake! this place eh

                              Richard,

Read his post from 5th Sept where he clearly names the supplier: https://www.socforum.com/forum/forum...2-new-fuse-box
