Rodent Repellent

Now the winter is on it's way I was looking at a rodent repellent for the garage, I haven't got a problem at the moment but was looking at prevention.
There are various electronic repellents (some even claim to keep spiders and other insects away too) however it seems there is some argument as to whether they do actually work, does anyone have experience of electronic repellents, or what works to keep these out ?

Not really looking at baited traps or mothballs/peppermint etc.

They don’t work I promise you. I owned a pest control business and I can assure you we would have fitted them everywhere and made a fortune from them if they did.

best advice if you don’t want to use traps (I do inside the car) then you need to plug all the gaps that can allow them
into the garage or wherever the car is stored. Bristle strip on any doors (that’s on my job list today as it happens), mortar up any holes bigger than the diameter of a bic Biro and leave put any bird/rabbit/dog food/lawn seed etc into plastic bins.

you won’t get any rodenticide that is of great use as a non professional so exclusion is first followed by trapping.

No worries, happy to help. We had access to a facility that was (deliberately) full of rodents (one with rats, one with mice) they took no notice of the “sonic repellant” as we stood and watched. We were then showed them in action with a signal receiver, the signal was very weak and very directional.

Couple of other points to add (I've had rat problems over the years). Remove any source of water as rats need regular water (mice less so), any awkward holes use wire wool well rammed in with a screwdriver or similar as rats don't like chewing on wire wool but will gnaw through most other things, including mortar.

We ended up with mice moving into the seats of the Alvis. This came to light whilst having some repairs to the upholstery. I now place bated traps around the garage despite weather strip at the bottom of the doors. The doors are also sealed with mastic.

All good info especially the wire wool although rats will chew most things they indeed prefer to chew bricks than wire wool (their teeth never stop growing hence the constant gnawing) - most garages will usually get mice rather than rats as the holes are generally too small for rats. Rats will often get in through open drains that lazy builders haven’t properly secured. You can put a rat flap (one way valve) in if you get this issue. Happy to help if anyone wants to discuss prevention and treatment - I hate rats.

How about Cats, I love them but....they have become a big niusance. My garage is like a tent-like structure the Cats are always in there ever night on top of my Stag. Weeing all over and crapping on the garden lawn. I got an electronic repeller... its useless! What can I do?

My family and I are Cat people....we have always had Cats, my daughter was devastated recently when both her Cats died of old age ( had to be put down because of health problems), they were 18 and 19 years old. She was inconsolable.
I kept my Mothers Cat when my Mother died but had to give him away to my Sister....there are too many Dogs around where I live, most owners don't put a leash on them. So did not want Coco to get hurt.

We accidentally shut a neighbour’s cat in our garage for 48 hours. It sorted the mice problem in order to survive that time without food.
Never heard such a racket as when the garage door was opened. The cat never came back but the mice did.

When I was a kid our cat disappeared for 2 weeks, came back well fed. We realised that he must have been locked inside the local bakery for their 2 week summer break, he was a great mouser!
