And Another One . LDU 871P

This may be a bit 'old hat' to some of you buit we have a number of new members who are looking for a Stag. This one has been referred to me as there is something 'odd' about it so be careful if you are interested

Triumph Stag 1976 Auto Red 30k Miles Restored | eBay

Looks like a nice car but the body is a mk1 and the identity is for a mk 2. It could therefore be described as a 'ringer'. It is also being advertised as being 30k miles - but I have a note that LDU 871P had a T2500 engine in 1987 so I feel that it is hghly unlikely that it will only have done 30k miles since it came out of the factory.

As I said, if you are looking for a car to buy, then be careful. Shiny is good but it is not the only consideration

Yes, seems to have a separate alternator regulator fitted. Can't believe those seats were refurbed 10 years ago. Looking more saggy than mine which definitely haven't been refoamed in the last 20+ years.(and may even be original).
White 1976 build ("Mk2") only a few mods

It appears to have participated in the SOC Devon coast to coast rally whenever that was. The seat bottoms might have been refurbed but not the backs.

is the number plate attributed to a member? That might help clarifying any issues.

lastly, our own webpage with cars for sale has some nice ones for less.

....and an early Mk1 instrument light cluster. Quite a concoction.

2003. I have just looked through the photos I took during that run and couldn't find one of this car. But I did find a photo that included my current Stag, some 5 years before I became its custodian - the red one in a sea of blue and white. At the time I owned my white Mk1. DSC00059.JPG

MOT history shows 30k miles since 2006 with a variety of items mentioned. The rust at the bottom of the drivers side screen will likely have let water down into the sill area and cause more rust.

Left hand door alignment well out, hardly any gap also not closing proper, boot lid not sitting right, right hand back lens must have been replaced dont match lefthand one.
Could have been repaired after an accident considering doors and back.

Met a poor chap at Tony Whites, his Stag was literally an amalgamation of Mark 1 Mark 2 and Mark 1 1/2. It was a mongrel of bits of this bits of that and was masquerading as a Mark ???? Well just pick one....1,2, or whatever...

A classic car is a classic car and a nice thing to have but in my opinion, some classic cars are more classic than others. Was the poor chap at Tony's the custodian of no more than a replica ? A collection of various bits and pieces cobbled together to make an 'entity' ? Or is it truly still a classic ?

What? Dont know what you on about......this gullible guy wanted a "Stag" went out and bought one. What he got after an inspection from a 'trained eye' was a Stag with a mixture of mark 1 and mark 2 parts and sold as a mark 1. The registration was of a mark 2 and I think the built number was that of a mark 2.
He did not know anything about Stags and bought the car in good faith... sadly the PO has passed away.
                    Yes! Poor chap.
