    As Julian said I used a 1/4 drive socket on an extension to a drill adaptor on to the original hex drive, I did securely tape everything together to prevent anything dropping in!

    As mentioned earlier , it takes time for the oil to circulate in the Stag engine, I would rather have oil circulated proper prior to start up. Don't want to take chances, I figure since its the last stage might as well be careful and do it right.

    No problem doing that 1st, absolutely correct to disable fuel pump & ht first.
    be prepared to crank for quite some time.
    starter isn’t really up for minutes of cranking & might overheat if it takes minutes.

    I'm going to be at this point with mine shortly - I'd figured that I would remove power from both the fuel pump and the Lumenition box then crank the starter while observing the oil pressure gauge. Any problem doing it this way?

    check & record rotor arm position. Remove distributor. If hex drive comes out that’s good. If not remove with a magnet.
    use a hexagon bar 5/16” instead, to engage and drive the pump anti clockwise, with a drill.
    I have used a skeleton gun hex (cut off the straight part) but some Skelton gun hex are a bit too small in their size and some are too big…. They are readily available though….
    Alternative is to use a long 1/4” square drive extension bar with an 8 mm / 5/16” socket…. Onto the original hex drive left in….But you mustn’t drop the socket into the engine when removing!

    I only fit a gauge for initial fire up to check the oil pressure…. After that it becomes a ‘worry-gauge’
    What may I ask please what precisely is the procedure for this ( red text ) I think this is the way I need to go, will give me peace of mind knowing the oil has circulated. I have fitted an oil pressure guage.

    Mike meant that he forgot to replace the oil pump drive shaft, and was still wondering why there was no oil pressure two minutes after starting the engine!
