    ETC 746J Another Ringer ?

    Judge for yourselves chaps.

    Triumph Stag | eBay

And if anyone is thinking of buying it, then beware - I can't see one mk1 part in any of the pictures and, according to my records, this is LD 1118, an early 1971 car.

that is a lovely looking car but I am with Peter here, not one single early feature!

It needs a 1974ish v5c from somewhere and it would be worth some money. Rotten shame

Same thing happens in Range Rover circles. alas it is more rife. A suffix "first generation" ran through to end of 1972. For every 10 project cars I look at, at least 9 will be largely 1980s vehicles wearing the early ID. One such example recently sold at auction for nearly £49k, the only original part I could see on the car were the door waist window trims. A chum who had seen the car told me that bodyshell and axles were mid 1980s. A new owner is going to be very disappointed.

Paradoxically 1973 bought about the B suffix Range Rover, production ran from Jan 1973 through to October 1973. A far rarer car yet survival rates are higher and I have yet to find one with a dubious "triggers broom" identity.

Just need to thank Tony Bliar and Gordon TFFA Brown for cancelling the rolling VED. Good work chaps

Seller not sold anything in over a year, but has been active on purchases some under a month ago so doubt the account has been hacked.
Anoying that eBay don't show the links back to the original add now to see what was bought or sold, but I supose privacy etc.

To be fair, Peter, It does say previous owner built from a bare shell. You can't see the door catches from the photos, and these are the only visible things which differentiate the Mk1 & Mk2 shells. The guy who rebuilt it may just have preferred the Mk2 seats, instruments, boot lid, rear bumper, badges, T-bar, wheels, stripes, 18 ACR alternator, etc. and built it accordingly..............

Are these cars that were reregistered to take advantage of zero road tax? I know one like that locally, a Mk2 with a K reg. It obviously doesn't matter now.

When I registered mine as historic they wanted the V5 manufacturing dates regardless of the Reg.

I didn't realise there were any manuals without overdrive. I've learnt something anyway. Presumably just very early cars?

My Mk1 came with a non overdrive box, and I once bought a non overdrive box for £31 off ebay. That one is in my Stag engined estate, I used the Estates A type overdrive on the back of the stag box

If you want to buy the car, my view is buy it.
you are not buying the seller, only the car.
make sure the car is good.
the seller isn’t what you are getting.
If they spin you a yarn but you like the never re-painted repaint & never welded metalwork repairs , don’t be put off.
if the previous work is poor , take a view.
description is nothing. Condition is everything.
