what is this clip called, does it have a part number.

I received some good advice from a soc member recently about replacing a bonnet pull cable on my mk1 stag, but when I tried to purchase the retaining clip for the bonnet pull cable, which is fixed to the bulkhead, the classic retailers did not seem to know what I was asking for. Any help would be appreciated.

Its not in the parts book.. shows the rubber grommet at the bulkhead, just as mine has..

What the heck is it for? -- why is it needed? got a photo?

The only clip I see in parts book is 611768 (also used in seat tilt cable) which I don't have either.. is that what's on the bulkhead?

Here is a picture of my totally original 1978 Stag when I was stripping it for rebuild. You can see the clip above the fuel line.

I don't have any clip there on mine. In my opinion, it forces the bonnet bowden cable into a series of tight radius bends which aren't necessary. Mine lies comfortably in its natural position in a big arc.

That clip in John's photos looks like the double 'C' cup holder for both fuel and brakes lines that are used on the underside of the car in the transmission tunnel where the pipes run together.

I have nightmares about this cable breaking and never getting the bonnet open again, might look to fit a new one and worry less......

                Hello Roy,

Why not consider fitting a second backup release cable, as many of us have? Peace of mind about opening the bonnet means that you can then spend more time worrying about the temperature gauge

Would something like this do the job? I’m sure you can find them in a few places in the U.K. you can get double ones as well, even with different sizes on each side, I used them for my vent pipes to the boot.

As mentioned above. it's a clip for the fuel and brake line. I got one on my 73 Shell and I put one on my 71. It fits well. the 71 had a single metal clip.

Thanks Dave, this is why I like this forum

Can you explain the routing of the second cable, is it fitted on the other side then routed down into the engine bay for use if/when the original breaks?

As for the temperature gauge, I've got the Steve Hill kit just fitted, slowly looking at the gauge less, probably even less once I get the low coolant switch wired up

Mine is almost a reversal of the installed cable on the bonnet catch; you'll need to drill holes in the two spigots on the catch, to secure the new cable and its sleeve to make it function. I've routed mine down through an existing hole on the bulkhead, and made a bracket which bolts under the back of the driver's foot rest, then attached a large ring to the inner cable to pull. I probably use it more than the original, as my car is parked in the garage up against the passenger side, and it's easier to access through the driver's door for opening the bonnet.

Others on here may have different designs or routing.

The clip on the bonnet pull in my experience is only used on early mk1’s with the bonnet pull on the right hand side of the dash.
