Handbrake cable plus the horse shoe ( compensator)

    Hi,
Before I proceed to instal a new h/brake cable and the compensator- which only needs to be put on the rod with the clevis pin., is there an easy way or anything?
The exhaust is not fitted so the only hindrance, if any, will be the propshaft.
Your experience in this matter will be most welcomed.
    Regards,

If you haven't already done so, make sure you get a new gaiter for the underside of the handbrake lever. Now is the time to fit it.

Make sure you get it from SOC spares. Other are crap. Don't forget to run the lines through the underside of the car body before feeding them through the small tubes in the trailing arms frames. I've been there and done that.

I went to feed mine through the two small tubes only to find they wouldn't fit through. It took awhile to discover that the tubes were bent slightly across their length and this stopped the fitting going through. In the end I got a very long thick shafted screwdriver inserted it into the tubes and bent them back and then the fittings went through.

I got my cable via one of the big two suppliers, and the quality seems good, but despite having new shoes, handbrake extensions, etc.. I had to fully adjust everything to get the correct travel. Still its works great now.

Thanks Sujitroy. Yes I noticed these, so to reiterate the cable goes around the compensator (horseshoe) through these tubes then are fixed to the fork end bracket. Is that correct?
Since there is no cable or horseshoe I cannot follow suit by sight.

Before going through these tubes there are two semi circular looking tubes weld to the car in the tunnel. They are there I think to stop the wires interfering with the exhaust pipe. Get under the car an you will see them. The need to be greased too. Sujit

Once you get it in place leave the handbrake cable off of the arms on the drums, then push the brake pedal a few times and the adjusters will take up all of the slack, only then connect the cable..

I saw that tip and can't remember who gave it but Thanks to whomever it was First classic I have ever owned that has a decent handbrake!

Hi, I forgot to do this, can I still get away with it if i was to take the h/brake cable off the arms on the drum and pump the brake?
The handbrake at the moment is not holding the car when I push it. Its got new shoes and recon calipers from the PO.

Yes, that’s what I did.. it does rely on the adjusters being in good shape, if so it should still help them to adjust fully. After you remove the cable maybe push the arms fully “off” before hitting the brake pedal.

Here are some pics of mine before dismantling. You can see the tubes in the trailing arms and the guides on the underside
