Cylinder Head ( is it scrap or can it be repaired?)

I got a engine from a fellow Stag owner. The valve broke and impacted a piston, not only that the valve stem and guide broke away too. The valve seat has been smashed in. I took it to my machinist - he rebuilt a set of heads for Stag no. 2, He took a look at the heads and said the valve seat can be built up and repaired. However, the hole where the valve guide used to sit has become oval and says he can't fix this. He said the scrap the head. Could an insert be put in? With the internet, it seem that I could get a second hand head and start from there. I'm reluctant to throw anything out, but realistically if it is not salvageable, I'll dump it after removing the cam, buckets etc.

I have had badly worn valve guide holes enlarged to fit a much fatter valve guide.

One head some years ago had already had an oversize guide fitted that had come loose again when I got it. My local machine shop bored it out bigger still and made up a bronze guide for it, must have been nearer 5/8 diameter rather than the original half inch.
