    Overheating

    Hi
i seem to be having an issue with overheating, the car has an additional fan and a newish radiator,it has been standing for sometime,I’ve reverse flushed the cooling system which was pretty clean
and replaced the stat and temp sender,it starts to overheat after about 7- 8mins even in the current weather, not sure whether to replace the water pump as it seems the next step unless anyone can give me other advice.
    thanks

Do a "block test" to confirm/eliminate HGF.

Also, I wonder if you have an air lock that is stopping circulation?

Lastly - what are the symptoms of the overheating - steam/water being blown out or just a rise on the guage?

Just an idea but If the water pump is pumping the top hose should get hot once the thermostat opens - does it get hot? Squeeze it, you may feel/hear the flow..

By that do you mean it overpressured and the water was blown out of the overflow?

If so maybe a head gasket?

"Block test" is a chemical test for combustion gasses in the coolant, which it indicates by a colour change. Just put the term in the ebay search box. They are not expensive.

Did the overheating start before you reverse flushed the rad & changed the stat.
If it's boiling that rapidly, sounds more like an air lock.

chap on the Facebook group (dave) is having exactly the same problems, he has used penrith 10 tenths coolant, have you by any chance as well? could be making the coolant to thick so not flowing round the system

I thought desert spoonfuls were those you get when removing the casting sand

Is there pressure remaining in the cooling system on a cold engine?

That is a certain diagnosis of HGF

Use a pressure testing kit. Available from eBay for 30-40.

Mk1 or Mk2? He put in a thermostat as none was previously fitted, could have fitted the wrong thermostat.
