This would be an interesting article if it was more than just an advert for Electogenic.

Of course with electric, its about what you want to spend... i.e. more money more performance, battery life etc... but it would have been nice to see some typical examples of:

• Cost
• Performance
• Battery life

For say low budget, medium budget and high budget and what those budgets would be.

If my V8 ever dies, I would consider it, especially as for my kids V8's will be harder to fix and feed compared to electric.

A recent series on TV was based on electrifying older cars.

A Karmen Ghia cost about £30 K and gave a range of about 150 miles.

A Land Rover defender was done, I don't know at what cost but it got to 60 in about 6.5 seconds

Much like the Electrogenic.... not much information. Just a website that does not say much. I know thats because they want you to ring them and discuss.... but that does not do much in getting people talking.

I guess its early days for this type of thing.

Yes, thanks Carl. It really does intrigue me. Of course I love my V8, but then I think that in the future, petrol and the skills to keeps V8's running will be gone, so I would love to hear more about this.

Could you ask about the thinks I mentioned in the first post. Having 3 options gives us an idea on the potential...

Stag owner demographic is likely to mean a smaller interest in E.V. Conversions, as most are attracted to the v8 as a major feature.....
Awaiting barrage from minority E.V. Enthusiasts.
suspect one day we will see the folly of the current E.V. Cult. in the meantime I’m still happy with following previous govt. advice to run a small, cheap turbo diesel as a daily.
might go back to a merc w124 300td though as commutes are becoming a thing of the past....w124 fondly remembered, but was low mpg & slow.
the jury decision is a long way away on E.V.s...for now & for me it’s just a marketing ploy, without enough viability or substance.

A couple of comments. First, hats off to Carl Fuss and the editorial team for keeping the magazine going during these times, and with some interesting articles too. Second, I'm not so sure that the skills to maintain petrol engines will die out. Look at the steam train enthusiasts, for example. And with scanning machines getting ever smarter, parts can be produced in the future, albeit at a price. Whether future generations will be allowed to drive their original Stags and other fossil fuel cars on the roads of the future is probably the bigger question. For me, the TV8 is the heart of the Stag and it wouldn't be the same with an electric motor, good though they no doubt are. PK

Internal combustion engines will be around for decades yet.

Certainly past the date when I cease to be able to drive, so I won't be affected by their eventual (if ever) demise. Politicians have a wonderful ability to kick contentious cans down the road for years.

in what we admired and perhaps couldn't afford or too young to drive back in the day. If you want an electric car go buy a Euro box Teslar or Nissan or whatever body it is disguised as.

You pay 30 K for a conversion and its instantly worth zero, authenticity lost forever, I wonder if they can they offer a Stag soundtrack played through the stereo

Don't disagree with the sentiments expressed above about the "beauty" of the original TV8 and I personally prefer an original car - no mods at all if possible, but that is my preference. I do like to see what others have done - from Neil (Flying Farmer) and Stagdad and their EFi's, Bullstarz and his black beast with some foreign engine and all cars in between. The effort and skills involved are just as worthy as any concours resto. The EV conversion is in a similar category in my book. Not everybody wants to relive the good old days of motoring - some like tinkering and enjoy the mechanics of it all. I wouldn't do it myself and don't think I would buy one (Electric Stag that is) but I find it really interesting to read about. It is not as if original Stags are rare. The classic car movement has a wide range of people involved from the "run a cheap banger", through the DIY restorer, lots of money and pay to get it done, buy a nice car and just go to socials, people who buy shiny bits to bolt on, mild modifications to "improve" the driver experience to full blown customisation etc. Not everyone has a Stag, or classic car, just to drive it. I personally get as much pleasure from working on them and especially that satisfaction when a restoration is complete - but that is me. Again personally I can think of nothing more boring than going to a one make, one model car rally and seeing row upon row of identical spec cars on display - literally seen one seen them all. Variety is the spice of life!

So I am still looking forward to reading more about the Stag EV. After reading it I may be more informed and say "what a load of rubbish", but at least my thoughts will be based on some factual information rather than a gut reaction.
