Passenger side - Side lights not working advice

    afternoon,
have recently removed my rear bumper and on putting back on and connecting the Number plate lights (MK1) which is two red from Lamps to 1 red in the boot they didn't work also the passenger side side lights both rear and front no longer work (the brake light and Indicator Passenger side work fine?) the fuse is ok bulbs are fine (even replaced the bulbs for the nbr plate) any ideas please ? have also two black wires with connectors on that appear to go nowhere / or connect to anything.... thanks Steve

the black wires should go the earth (chassis) try earthing them to the body and see if it cures the problem. if not check you have a 12v supply with a meter or bulb and test lead

Unlikely a ground as the front sidelight is grounded elsewhere, however Sod’s law states that the front bulb could have blown as well So check it anyway.

The front and rear lights are fed from fuse 7/8 as is the number plate lights via the dimmer relay its definitely worth checking that fuse again..

thanks - i will re-check the fuse and side/light Bulbs - but seems strange that its just the passenger side - will check supply...

Not that strange.. Fuse 7/8 only supplies the left sidelights and plate light .. fuse5/6 does the right side..

What age of Stag are we talking about? Major difference with arrangement of side lights and provision of parking lights. Also, do the number plate lamps still work or. not?

Apologies, you do say Mk1. My guess is your left side (front and rear) are not working, nor the number plate. If so check fuse 7 /8 as said before, and also that you have power at terminal 7 on the fuse. If you don't, then need to check power coming from the light switch on the red/green wire, or either of the iblube connectors the wire passes through.

Yep... check the ones at the rear of the seat / near the wheel arch in the boot, behind the carpet...with a voltmeter.

The rivets in the fuseholders which connect through the bulkhead are well known to become corroded and/or loose, soldering and/or tightening these inside and out will usually fix this.

Your problem with the LHS sides lights would suggest you check the rivet connections on fuse 5-6.

The number plate lights require the two black wires connecting to a good earth point to operate.
