Replacement Door mirrors - peeps views?

    Hi All,
I am in desperate need for a very good clean Pair of door mirrors. New or second hand.
I have been trolling through loads of adverts etc.
Are there any leaned members that have had experience of using one type versus another on their stag/
    Any advice welcome....

I went for Tex, but still had issues getting to to see the rear of the car. In the end my son 3D printed a spacer for me and they work well now. But out of the box they dont.

Most people complain about the TEX type that is a common fitment but one fix is to get convex mirrors which are cheap and easy to fit, or just buy them like that.

the stem on the TEX mirrors in my opinion are curved too much towards the car. This prevents the mirror being almost perpendicular to the door for someone who sits far back like me. some folks have got a dremmel to the mirror to change the angle. I fitted a passengers side mirror on my car after 20 years of owning it. didn't need it with top down driving. always looked back. I do have convex mirrors still needed the mod.

Thanks chaps, The Tex mirrors ore of the period and you have confirmed their limitations.
          Interesting spacer idea.
I was trying to get a larger glass and the base/arm being able to be adjusted outwards slightly, nothing deems to fit that bill.
There are loads of 'Tex" mirrors and its difficult to judge a good well chromed one as some of the pictures of them look a bit tacky and cheap (not in actual price however).
I was looking at XJS types, but these have on the whole been pulled off cars and are a bit battered.
I will consider getting the Tex with a convex mirror...

I bought some special cupped washers from LD Parts. They're better but by no means perfect.

if the washer and mirror body are fettled with a dremmel the work ok

Your right to say that the mirror positions are for me anyway to far towards the rear of the car. I think that whoever designed them at that position must have been vertically challenged. I removed mine and filled the rearmost hole and positioned the mirror base just over the original hole and re drilled a new hole towards the the front of the car, it's not perfect but it gave me an extra couple of inches. I the replaced the mirror heads with Tex convex heads and that seemed to help. If you have short legs then the view is fine but if you long legs like me you may have to dip your forward a bit.

I’m in the process of fitting my tex mirrors and agree they are not great. The passenger side is ok, as it needs to be angled more but the drivers side needed dremmel and brute force to work. Also when screwed down the arm gets loose and rattles. I think the spring end is bottoming out, pushing the pin up little, as when you release the screws it tightens up. Anyone else seen that?

Yes. My driver's mirror does exactly the same. I bought a pair at least ten years ago, and it is clearly a manufacturing fault which I would have expected them to rectify long ago. I suppose fitting a thicker gasket under the base might cure it, but it would need to be like the first one not to look a mess.

I cured it by cutting out the plastic away from under that spring retainer.. the spring end definitely hits the plastic causing the problem.. proved it with the grandkids play dough, I knew they would be useful sometime!

I’ll take pictures when I do the other side

Very crude as I dared not take the plastic gasket off for fear of damaging the plugs that hold the screws, but cutting away the plastic under the springs definitely helped tighten the stems up a bit I’ll start looking for replacements and do it properly I guess, I found MG pt# bha4679 that may be the correct one.
