they usually need axle ratio, distance of travel of 1 revolution of the road wheel in inches to calibrate

It’s relatively easy to recalibrate the speed reading it’s about magnets and pointer position but the miles are a function of the gears in the speedo I think, not so easy.

Thanks al - I admit its a mystery - it would account for why I'm not getting 40mpg !!! Speedo reads accurately but mileage it overreads. I had the speedo at The Gauge Shop for mileage correction and asked that this be adjusted for the 2.5s Diff ratio. I guess I'll need to have a chat with Alan Davies to see what it might be..
Thanks all

If the speed is correct but miles are wrong it MUST be a problem with the speedo as said above.

Road speed is spot on but mileage is way out - do I have to change the angle drive under the car to correct the milometer readings ? If so does anyone have one or can anyone tell me the part number ?
Many thanks

If the speedo and odometer are different, that has to be a problem with the speedo. The other factor you did not mention is the speedo gearing in the gearbox. The stag usually has a 3:1 ratio but other cars may have different ratios. What ratio is used on the 2.5 Estate?

Andy.
I have never heard of angle drives coming in different ratios. They are 1 to 1. How the speedo can be correct and the mileometer wrong though, I can't understand. No doubt there will be suggestions!
