    air intake designs??

About to get mine back, after a complete rebuild on the engine. Now running a Holley carb, and was thinking there has to be a better way to bring cool air into that thing to help the whole combustion process....
Without the original funnel , it just seems to be dragging in air from that hot engine compartment.

Curious if anybody has come up with a good cold air intake plan, or if it really doesn't make any appreciable difference.

I have one of the more recent weber installations, it uses a pancake style filter box connected the same way to the original air intake. Cold/cooler air is better for sure.
Sorry don't have a pic handy.

Without a cold air intake you will struggle in hot weather when in traffic. The air density drops so much the engine runs very rich and the idle speed drops.

Back in the days of leaded petrol when you could set the mixture by the exhaust colour I found a variation of three sizes on the main jet between hot and cold weather. I made my own feed to the air cleaner using sheet steel, and I know Stagdad made his own design as well.

Stagdad’s looked very good, as did one from local owner John, who made one from an adapted standard air filter box, which looked almost original and avoided the prototype frying pan look.

Good morning Gents from the States- appreciate the responses as usual. I remember seeing a picture of a nice looking Stagdad intake in a red/orange engine bay, and wondered
if those were still for sale. Barring any discoveries in somebody's extra parts shed, looks like I'm going to have to hone my sheet-metal skills!

That could well be a Stagdad one as I sold it with a Weber to Dave M who painted it ginger, to match his Topaz car, he also had ginger hoses.

I'm going to have to amp up my skills to make one that looks as cosmetically nice as these.....
(may be more than a six-pack's worth of beer involved there :-) )
