Back in the early 70's my Triumph Spitfire Mk 2 started smoking from the steering column whilst negotiating a roundabout in the centre of Swansea, girlfriend on board and not impressed! An RAC man (as they all were in those days) pulled alongside within seconds of my opening of the bonnet and diagnosed the horn earth wire had shorted on the steering column. Temporary fix and on our way in minutes. Not a member and no charge! Those were the days! Always happy to recommend good service. Regards, John.

RAC are helpful. I am a member and broke down during lockdown. I had been self isolating when lockdown started away from home and was on my way home in the Stag. The oil filter seal went and I dumped all my oil. Fortunately I stopped before any damage was done as I noticed the blue smoke behind and the oil pressure gauge plummeting. He tried hard to get me another seal but I ended up being trailered home. They also paid for a taxi as I was not allowed to travel with the driver due to their Covid regulations.

Earlier today, driving locally in my Stag, I smelt petrol - never a good sign. A National Tyre/Autocare Centre was very nearby so I pulled into their carpark to investigate. Sure enough, plenty of petrol in the V, leaking from a pipe somewhere under the air filter box. Parked next to me was a RAC van and man. He came over and asked what the problem was, so I explained and asked him if he had a couple of spare jubilee clips as I would probably need them (note to self and others - keep a couple in the car!). He said yes and we set to removing the air filter box (made quicker by him having power wrenches etc.). I said I wasn't a member and he said no bother. We found the problem and he had an extra connector and clips and it was sorted. I asked what I could do for him in return and he said to post feedback on their website with his details under the Compliments/Complaints section, which I did. Mick 1184 is a great guy! He commented that the good thing about old car technology is that many things are very fixable without specialist parts, at the roadside. He confessed to liking Stags, so that clearly helped.
