    Rear lights

There a pair of NOS complete rear lights on ebay us for sale. One has a sticker LH, the other RH. This has got me thinking.

I've been cleaning my lights on the bench and the base units have the same no. stamped them starting with the letter L. The clear cover are new replacements and look symmetrical. The only thing I see different is the gasket between the clear cover and base unit. The gasket seems to have cut outs in them maybe for a drain hole. Has anyone noticed any other differences? If no difference, I'm assuming I can fit the lamp bases in any position.
The base unit is held in with 5 nuts. There is this C shaped bracket which helps with clamping also. Was this bracket an after thought? As I cant see it doing anything else.
Since one of my spare base units is heavily pitted, can I ground them down, fill with body filler and use some chrome spray paint to make them look good again? Anyone tried this?

The bracket is what holds the captive nut ( can’t think of the correct term .. spiral something?) For the plastic cover inside the boot...

After installing mine recently I was totally unawares that they were sided.. I just installed them shiniest side up

Same for the federal front indicators.. they are sided but I can’t see any difference.. my lenses are are both left side!

Hello Terry, There are 2 brackets on each light The bracket I'm talking about in shown in the photo in the listing. I'm not talking about the bracket for holding on the plastic cover. I'd post a photo, but mine is sitting in a bath of rust remover.

One thing I would suggest Sujit is to solder in ground wires to each bulb holder, the grounding on them through the clips is rubbish.

there's a good article on buckeye triumph on soldering a spot in the bulb holder. I used that technic for stag no1. went and took a closer look at the lamp base. there are two no. r and l. on the back. also noticed the wattage of bulbs is embossed
