    Extra brown wire

    Pulled the alternator out as it typically has about 200mA leakage. Anyway, there is what seems to be an extra brown wire ( highlighted below) here is no place to connect this wire n my alternator. Only the standard Lucas plug with the output and field. What was the purpose of this wire? It's connection into the harness seems very odd.

    BTW, it looks like a CS-130 alternator will not clear the PS hoses and extra stuff in there. Probably going for the FIesta alternator then. I just have a bias against Lucas alternators for the leakage problem which seems to be almost ubiquitous. GAD what a pain to get to. Well, I had to take the trans cooler off to straiten the fins anyway. Charging.png

      Just a guess, but might the legacy +ves from the 3-pase diodes have been brought out separately?
      White 1976 build ("Mk2") only a few mods

        It’s not there on mine but mines not standard anyway..18acr does seem to have a terminal for it but where it goes beats me

          Some alternators are battery sensed and have an extra terminal to connect the thin brown wire, others are machine sensed and don’t have the terminal or need for the wire, which needs to be safely taped up. Nothing to do with 3 pase (sic)

            I thought about it being a sense wire, but where it is connected did not make a lot of sense. I'll trace it back and remove at the source. Don;t do dangling taped up wires.

              that n wire is in the mk1. loom. the p.o. hacked the wiring on my mk1 so I removed the controller and stuff. I will install a mk2 alternator. there are two thick wired on a mk2. I added an extra thick brown wire. to reduce current load. others leave it as is.
