    Voltage Stabilizer

Hi Guys, I have been searching the forum for info of where to obtain a solid state voltage stabilizer but have come up with a blank does anyone know if the LD or Rob sport one is solid state without me phoning them or will the ones they sell do?, fuel and temp gauge reading low sometimes.

Thanks for your help in advance

I've seen a site about make your own but didn't want that hassle

I get mine from Moss Motors. It is just a 10V regulator chip soldered in there.
Gauges will read HIGH as the typical old stabilizer quits. If reading low, I would be more suspect of bad connections.

Type Voltage Stabiliser into ebay. Plenty on there.

I bought mine from RS Components. I've included a photo of its wrapping with the component part number. From memory, the central pin is not used.

Centre pin is an earth as is the mounting tab, use one or the other. Left hand pin is input and right hand is output.

£6 for soldering 3 short lengths of wire and a bit of heatshrink, not a bad little number.

Not sure how you expect the guy to feed his family - P&P was included, too.

That Moss one is heavy for what it is. As you can do this yourself for less than £5

I'm going to check the earth first as my gauges go down not up, I stopped on the way home from the garden centre as my temp gauge went to zero and the fuel gauge went to 3/4 just after filling the tank with my 99p petrol.

Sounds more like the V stabiliser is sticking a bit (it works using a bi-metallic switch surrounded by a heating element) in switching battery voltage on and off, spending too long of "off". If you lost the earth, there'd be no heating and therefore the gauges would see battery voltage at all times and read high.
