Reversing my car into my garage involves a full right lock manoeuvre and lately I have been aware of a strange noise emanating from the front left wheel area whilst doing this. Today it got really bad, as if the brake pads that side were locking on. A close look with the steering hard over revealed the tyre wall rubbing against the spring base. Normally there is about 10mm clearance.
I jacked the wheel up and the whole wheel seemed loose, as if a wheel bearing had collapsed. Luckily I had a pair of front hub assemblies on the shelf which I had reconditioned at the start of lockdown, so I started to dismantle the front hub on the car.
This is what I found when it was apart. To think that I was doing 70 along the A38/M5 yesterday.....
