    Where do these go

I'm putting my engine back in on my 72/ auto trans. Stag and these little brackets were in the bell housing bolts envelope. I remember that they were on the bell housing somewhere but cannot recall exactly where they belong or what they do. I know somebody out there can tell me where these go.

    Thanks,
    Michael

If you have a parts manual, you will find them on page 02-04, part number 157227.. They are part of the two strengthening brackets connecting the engine sump to the sump of the auto box.

You don"t need them for the manual box. Refer page 02-57

Strange. On my computer, Michael from Virginia says he has a "'72/ auto trans". Which is why I didn't refer him to the manual box. 02-04 says "Auto" at the top of the page in my copy.

Yes but the same brackets appear on page 02-03 "manual". Maybe just a drafting error or perhaps the factory fitted these brackets to every engine whether it was fitted to a manual or automatic car

On looking at page 02-57 again I think the two small brackets have been deleted and replaced with the long bracket part no.158519

This has been covered a few times in the forum. The supports are definitely on manual cars but not the very early ones. My early sump does not have the brackets welded to it to connect to those angle pieces on the rear engine plate. post #12 on this thread shows them on the Manual plate.

I’m not great on auto But ISTR The bracket for auto is different but still connects to the same tabs on the sump. Maybe the early versions used the same as the manual? And the later auto box had the 158519?

I guess if you have them and they can be mounted to the rear plate then that’s that!

Just checked the engine I bought in exchange from Enginuity. It's fitted with these brackets which attach to the sump and rear engine plate
