    Rechroming service sought

Morning all. Hope everyone is well. My bumper quarters need re chroming. Can anyone recommend a company to do it for me?

    Thanks Ian

I just had some chroming done by Castle Chrome. Great job not cheap. I sent for quotes from the platers listed below. You won't get a fixed price until they see the items only an estimate. Bumper costs are horrific. I ended up buying new stainless steel as it was cheaper. New chrome on quarters may make the rest look shabby.

Just to jump in here, I know you said that costs vary depending on condition but are you able to give me a clue as to what I might I expect for a full set of bumpers? I was considering rechroming but it sounds as though new stainless may be the way to go.

It all depends on whether you want originality; stainless will likely work out much cheaper. A lot of the chroming cost is in the preparation, particularly if any repairs are needed, so you will need to judge what the current state of your bumpers are.

Harringtons have them on offer today for £845 including delivery.

See below for estimated quotes I was given

              DERBY PLATING

              "Morning John,

              Thanks for the enquiry.

I'm guessing that for items 2 and 3 you mean the horseshoe end trims with the upper and lower trims that connect?
If so as a rough estimate subject to seeing the parts you would be looking around £1,500+vat for the bumpers and overriders and £340+vat for the each of the front and rear set of trims"

              CASTLE CHROME

              "Hello.

              Thank you for your enquiry.

              Front Bumpers £300

              Rear Bumpers £400

              Trims £30 each

              Over riders £50 each

              Horse shoes £30 each

Plus vat Plus postage plus any repairs."

              WALKINSHAW

"Hi 220 front 250 rear over riders 45 each need to see the horseshoes and boot and bonnet trim to quote thanks aaron"

              ACF HOWELL

              "Hi John,

              Quotation

              Front bumper £440.00
              Rear bumper £440.00
              Horse shoe £35.00
              Rear boot trim £35.00
              Bonnet trim £35.00

Plus any repairs, carriage and vat.

              ETA 12 weeks"

As you can see quite a wide price range.

Someone else has recommended ACF Howell to me in the past if that helps.

My front bumper was done by S&T at Yate, Nr Bristol a couple of years ago. Excellent job. No idea on the price as it was an insurance job - Hermes delivery lorry reversed into me!

Thank you everyone, that's very helpful. I don't think I'm too worried about originality so, based on even the less expensive prices above, it looks as though stainless will be the way to go.

Wow, I should have sent mine to the UK, chrome is much more expensive over here in USA. I wish someone had posted those price quotes a year ago!

Cheapest quote I got for horseshoe trims was $100, with huge lead times. I settled on $125. I didn’t even ask about bumpers went right to stainless.

Just to clarify Harringtons do not supply the front badge. Only the rear.
