    Foot rest position

Does anyone have a picture of the footrest position in a Mk 2 RHD Auto car?

I want to put one in my 1972 Mk1 RHD Auto.

    Thanks.

    Steve.

There are two screw holes in the floor roughly where the clutch pedal would be, pull the carpet back and you'll see them. My Mk2 was built in November 1972 and is pretty much a Mk1 with trim changes and the footrest holes are there on mine.

Thanks Richard, I did look but couldn't find them. I will have a better look: it will be much easier if they are there as Tony White included the two machine bolts with the foot rest and no drilling will be needed.

Attached a pic showing encircled rest. It is bolted through the carpet.

I had to drill the holes on my mk1. From memory there was only really one place you could fit it.

See pic of rest location holes. Pretty self explanatory but the centre of the lower hole is approx 40mm from the lower horizontal bend line and approx 45mm from the diagonal bend line. You already have the rest so you know the hole centres.

Thanks JOHNS, I've had another better look but no holes! As I don't know what is fixed to the inside of the transmission tunnel I will get Paul at StagClassics to drill the holes and fix the footrest.

There are two welded captive nuts inside the transmission tunnel. Not sure if there is enough room between tunnel and clutch pedal to allow drill access from interior.

                      Rivnuts are one solution here

                        Are rivnuts strong enough?

At that size they will be but you'll need strong hands to insert them! It's only a footrest, you'll not be standing on it.

Don't try aluminium Rivnuts, they'll corrode in no time, get steel ones and borrow the 'industrial' size applicator.

Thanks, I was just thinking when I stand on the brakes my left foot might involuntarily join in! I can't manage this left foot braking lark.
The tip to use steel rather than aluminium is appreciated.

I have an automatic Stag, 4-speed ZF ‘box, and almost always use left foot braking. It makes sense when driving against the clock - a manual gearbox would make more sense but I can’t be bothered. My competition work is for fun, not outright wins!!
