    Re-bushing steering column

I need to reposition my upper steering column, as the yoke which cancels the indicators is in the wrong position (with the rack centred and toe-in correct). Having examined the column from under the dash panel, I note there is some play between the lower and upper outer column tubes and I'm guessing this is probably due to worn bushes between the inner and outer columns.
Can anyone advise me if replacing them is an easy job and are there any other hints about doing the job (e.g. is there anything else that should be replaced at the same time)?

Once you have the column out everything is straight forward. A point to note, my sliding spline on the inner shaft is worn but can be refreshed by having the stearing wheel at a longer or shorter reach. You could try that first. The grip on the sliding spline is adjustable once stripped down.

dont forget to lock the collar that holds the spline after adjustment by peening it with a punch . put a taper on the end of the inner shaft to make it easier to slide into the new bushes use plenty of silicone lubricant . fit a new bottom bush as well. not difficult, just dont force anytthng.Derek
