    Ball joint removal.

What kind of force is needed to get 45 year old rusted ball joints out of the lower A-arm? Clip off of course. It looks like someone had dried before me and gave up.

Assuming I do get them out, what kind of tool/force gets the new ones in? I don't have a press, but if that is the answer, how big of one do I need?

Yes I think you do need a press for that, Not sure what size but it would not be an overly large one..

Someone may come along with another solution but as I have access to one I just used it!

Maybe an excuse. HF has their 6 ton on sale for $70. I am betting I am not going to to the rubber bush with just sockets and my vice or all-thread like I usually do.

I bought the 12 ton press from Harbor Freight to remove a bearing from the gearbox input shaft. used it a hand full of times for other stuff. removed the water pump impeller off the shaft. space is the only issue. but had a coupon and worth it.

Well, the 20 ton was on sale with a coupon for only $20 more. Floor space is all about the same. Got my small brake cylinder hone so top strut bushings are now fitting. I am not too sure the inner bushing is as round as it should be. Next job is making a wrench to fit the lock collar of the shock inserts. Need to pause and put the head back on my B.

Glad I bought the 20. Took quite a bit of force. Hardest part was due to the uneven casting, there was not a lip all the way around the edge. Home made wrench worked like a champ ( bit of bar with two #10 bolts through it. ) Shocks nice and snug. Just waiting on the bushings and the front end will go back together. Then time for the engine!

Always a delay. Anyone had difficulty with the sway bar bushings from Rimmer? The ones they sent would fit a 5/8 bar but ours are 3/4 inch and the OD was too great for the cap. The moron on the support desk just said buy new caps, but of course, that is not a solution. If they are too incompetent, anyone have another source? Doing rubber, but I guess I could use poly if I had to. Otherwise, it is buy generic ones and drill new holes for the wider spacing required. I guess it is my "lucky" day as the tappet cover gaskets for my B were also wrong so I am waiting on getting that resolved.

Got the struts reassembled. Not impressed with the top bearing design. New cars are far better than a simple thrust washer.
