Hazell TV show featuring a Stag

Anybody remember the TV series Hazell from 1978/9? I've just seen a trailer on Talking Pictures channel (Freeview 81,Sky 328) Starting Friday 8th November at 9.00 pm they are showing this series starring Nicholas Ball and his car was a Triumph Stag HDU416N. It seems this vehicle hasn't been on the road since 1990 and was red at that time whereas in the series is was British Racing Green. I love these old shows,especially the cars because you can recognise almost every one, unlike nowadays where so many of the modern cars look alike.

"Interestingly " I watched Carry On Cabbie on tv and it showed all the Glamcab Cortinas, and reg numbers, wonder how many of them are still around? Even more interestingly some were 2 door cars.Odd for a taxi I thought.

The cars were supplied by Ford as a promotional exercise for their new model-the MK 1 Cortina and were OWC 164-OWC 170. As you say though a 2 door taxi is a bit of a non starter.

The fact that they were sequential number plates could mean they were owned by the Ford motor company.

I saw Carry on at your convenience which featured an MG Midget or Sprite, and the registration number check shows that the car is still on the road. Wonder if the owner knows.

I remember watching the Hazel TV series, and would you believe I was driving a new Morris Marina Super Coupe at the time, which had replaced my Triumph Spitfire which someone had run into and written off. Our 2nd child was born on Xmas Day 1978 and we bought the Marina because we needed a family car, and got 20% off any new BL purchase as we had relatives working for Leyland Motors. Quite liked the Marina as it had a very "torquey" 1.8 engine (same as in the MGB), but replaced it in 1980 with a two tone Ford Capri Calyso.

I remember at about 16 years old hitching a lift from a couple of "boyz" in a 2 door who punched me right in the face as I climbed out the back and robbed me of my 5 quid.. got the dental implant to prove it

Programme is on tonight at 9.00pm-Talking Pictures TV (Sky 328/Freeview 81). I don't know how many episodes the Stag features in as I believe it was wrecked sometime during the series.

This is the car used in the series,although I believe it was changed to red at a later date. I personally love car spotting in these old TV shows and also recognising wagons and buses-yes I know I need to get out more

Well I watched this last night and thought it was ok. I didn't watch it the first time round as back in 1978 I would have been out with the lads most nights. There were quite few shots of him driving the Stag but I had to chuckle a bit when he parked it up outside some offices and as there was a traffic warden hovering about he lifted the bonnet and pretended it had broken down- As if that would happen!!
