New water pump cover casting incorrect.

Just enquiring if there is a known issue with the dimensions of new water pump covers.
I fitted a new pump and cover today but can't get the inlet manifold to fit without it fouling the pump cover. The casting body from the front bolt hole to the edge (where hose adapter is screwed in) is about 3.5mm thicker than the original.
The cover is sitting properly with 2 gaskets but the 3.5mm extra width is just enough to stop the manifold.
I've emailed supplier and await a response, but wonder if anyone else has had problems.

    Cheers
    Steve

    Hiya,
I know someone who had the same problem last year. I believe it was from the same source. I think he ground it (or the inlet manifold) down to get it to fit.

    Rgds

I wonder if the casting has been made too tight for skimmed heads. Pretty shoddy though.

Why do you need a new water pump cover? must be a fair few used items for 6 and 12 vane pumps about

Thanks for replies, I bought the cover to go with the new pump, my old cover a mess inside, really pitted badly, to be honest I didn't think about buying used.
I'll grind the manifold as a last resort if I can't get any joy with an exchange or refund , If I get a refund I'll get a used one as suggested.

        Cheers

Well spotted Steve. It has been a known clearance danger area for years, and has caused many a failed inlet manifold gasket. There is usually plenty of spare metal on the manifold or the pump cover to grind away what is necessary to get a decent clearance, but I wouldn't advise that you do it to a part you have just bough for obvious reasons. You need to get the supplier to rectify the problem one way or another asap without keeping your car off the road.

            Hi Mike

I had to phone for an update due to no reply to my email, they said their stock was probably all incorrect (they didn't offer to check) and they would inform the manufacturer, and let me know the outcome.
Basically I would have to wait, which isn't an option.
I told them I wanted a refund and would shop elsewhere. Probably only one manufacturer is the problem.
I would rather go used after seeing the quality of the new one compared to original, certainly wouldn't risk filing it.
I will revisit my old one and clean it up or get a good used one.

            Thanks
            Steve
