    DAB windscreen aerial ..fitting?

Before I crash on and make a mess of things I just thought I would ask as it looks a little more complicated than on a modern..I have had a DAB Sony head unit bought for me and it came with a self-adhesive windscreen aerial, now one part of the aerial has to operate as an earth and the interior windscreen rubber seems to get in the way..has anybody done this and if so any tips please
    Cheers

I bought a Sony DAB radio for my Mitsubishi Pinin.
Rather than use a stick on DAB aerial I used a splitter so it used the normal aerial instead.
To my surprise, it worked, was not even an amplified one either.

I too used a splitter cable and the existing aerial, works very well. I used the more expensive item (£10'ish) which included an amplifier.

        Brian,

I have a stick on aerial and fitted this, but used a separate earth wire, from the adhesive pad that should have connected to the screen frame ( simply stripped the wire and stuck it to the adhesive pad) then routed that to a proper earth down by the dash. Couldn’t see any other way to do it, as the adhesive foil was not long enough to go over the rubber and attach to the screen frame!

I have to admit that for several months I could NOT get it to work, whether powered by the new radio, or not. Then, after driving a couple of modern DAB equipped Fords, I went back to the radio and scanned ALL of the signal blocks - and lo and behold I found a signal and it works quite well. It just wanted properly tuning in - doh!........works now though.

        Worth a try Brian.

          Morning Brian,

I bought a 100 series FM/DAB radio from Classic Car stereo of Bradford.
This came with a stick-on antenna.
However, I also bought one of their active splitter units, which allows use of the original extending antenna.
When I spoke to them, they also advised to try using the splitter unit "unpowered" first of all, as sometimes the set can be "swamped" if the input signal is excessively strong.
I saw a car at Faversham Classics a couple of weeks ago, where the owner had put a stick-on antenna at the top of the screen, directly behind the rear-view mirror.
The radio instructions do say the antenna should NOT be stuck close to metal to ensure good reception, but hey, I think we all want these antennas to be as discrete as possible....
          Happy listening,
          Neil.
