"What is involved in the rear fog light conversion ? and are they bright"

See here http://www.grampianstags.net/ and yes they are bright. I only put in one fog light so the brake light could still be seen.

I wrote the article on the Grampian Stags website, I have amended my set up slightly by adding an extra relay to give the extra lights a bit of a boost as at times, for example, when the car was idling only one of the extra stop light would be illuminated. LED"S require really good earths and also no drop in voltage.

Having the extra brake lamps and fog lamps really (in my opinion) boosts rear end safety. They are bright!

The BCL version uses twin circuit bulb holders as used in the rear/brake lights and fits them in the reversing light fitting. They then use twin circuit LEDs equivalent to 27W, one is a white light for the reversing light and the other is a red light.

You have to rig a power switch and warning light from the dashboard area and power it. Some people use the hardtop rear screen heater switch as it already has a warning light, I added a new switch/light and powered it via the headlight switch so the fog lights only come on when the headlights are on.

Classiccarleds also do the two-colour led light. I’ve used them for reverse and brake lights.

I fitted these instrument LEDs to my Mk2 last year. Even with the dimmer at full brightness the original lights were very dim. With the white LEDs the brightness is just right. The instruments themselves impart a light green tint to the light. Because they are LEDs the dimmer does not work.
I did not do the warning light cluster as I consider them to be bright enough as standard.

I fitted Leds to TR6 instruments and they were a terrific improvement. As image from DJT above I used green Leds and I would heartily recommend green as the colour to have. I will soon be fitting them to the Stag

Yes, I used the ClassicLEDs ones, made a huge difference.

To those of you that have converted the main six dials to LED; did you paint the inside of the gauge 'cans' white to give better internal reflection of the colour?

I haven't bothered, Dave, as they are bright enough as they are. I did that to the cans on my old Mk1 years ago before LED bulbs became so good.

The hot plastic smell would not have been caused by the LEDs. LEDs run cold. The rheostat will not work with LEDs.

                            me too

I had to replace a few of the bulbs that had gone black on the inside with use/age to get the lights bright enough but I do use the dimmer and have no issues with the standard setup which seems bright enough for my use

Yes, I was out to the SOC meeting last night and the standard dash lights were plenty bright enough, except the oil/water gauge- I think that needs a new bulb!

One of the other issues with the standard bulbs is that the heat generated by them can cause the instruments to steam up when it is cold. This is eliminated when LEDS are fitted as they run cold.
