Sorry - I didn't word it very clearly in post #289 (just re-read it), it is the front engine cooler I am talking about, and I have should have said "for my Stag Auto model car" not " for my Auto box", I wasn't aware there is a separate oil cooler for the Auto Box?. Must learn not to make posts after coming in after a few beers (happy hour is currently 5 to 6.30pm). I try to make it clear that mine is an "Auto" model because sometimes people reply with suggestions that are only applicable to "Manual" models.

Terry - engine oil coolers are not a standard Stag fitting. I fitted one on mine years ago because I used to tow my caravan around France/Spain/Italy every summer.
For auto-boxes, the gear-box oil cooler is standard, and is fitted in front/below the engine.
If you have an engine oil cooler with an auto-box, then you have two small coolers as well as the radiator.

Shows what little I know ( it must be old age) - I thought It was an engine oil cooler, and didn't realise it was for the Auto-box, the Garage who said the "original" one was leaking just said to order a new oil cooler. I paid over the phone, and the parts invoice with the item description on it went straight to the garage. The garage who now have the car and rang to say the new one was now leaking just said " the new oil cooler" is leaking, and I have just assumed (wrongly it seems) all along it was an engine oil cooler. Seem to be getting quite a few things wrong recently, perhaps I should stop making posts!

              Ah, missed that.

No, don't stop making posts. Just relax and have another beer. Lots of folk on here ready to help. If I listed all the silly things I have done since I had my Stag, I would be writing here all night !!

Well I dropped off my daughter and our youngest grandchild at the Airport this morning, and on the way home called in at the Garage who have my Stag. They said they are still waiting for my new oil cooler to come back which had been sent to a local radiator repair specialist for testing/repair. Pressure testing apparently is not showing any leaks, but the Garage boss/mechanic says it was definately leaking from the cooler when they ran the engine!? Asked them to chase things up and get the car fixed and back to me before next Tuesday when we go away on holiday. We will see?

Would like to close this long running Thread with a successful conclusion if I can, but I am still no wiser on how well the new Weber carburetor I fitted is performing. Will see if I can report back on that before the next Brexit "D" Day in October.!?

Quick further update - have just got back from a short break in Crete, but on contacting the Garage who have my car it is still not done!.
Apparently the tests on the oil cooler show that it is not that that is leaking. Garage have promised to give the car priority this week as it has been with them a long time now.

Disappointed with the holiday in Sissi, Crete as it was not what was expected, and it is unlikely we will return to Greece again. It was also cold there, and I think living in Tenerife has spoiled us for when we visit other places abroad, but the misses and I do have a Baltic cruise lined up for July/August on our favourite ship the "Braemar".

Hi All. Have been reading previous comments on Stag Weber conversions and could do with some advice.
I had the Weber fitted with oil catch tank by a reputable garage and since then the the oil leaks have appeared as mentioned by previous commentators. I note one post says that this can be overcome by fitting a breather system. Can you provided me details of what this is so I can very if my system has been fitted properly.
Also, since the Weber has been fitted the consumption has dropped from 24/25 MPG to below 20. I was led to believe thy were meant to be an improvement.. I am running the ZF 4 speed autos box so would be interested if any one with that box has the Webers and what MPG can be expected.

Did you buy the Weber from Stagweber? If so, best to address this with Chris Spain, the company owner.

If bought elsewhere, then still worth having a word, or contact via the Stagweber Support Facebook page. He knows the best jetting.

Welcome to the forum. Are the fuel consumption figures a fair comparison and taken under similar driving conditions?. The ZF shows greatly improved economy at higher speeds.
Alternative carbs often cannot handle breathing like the Strombergs. Good advice above to contact the manufacturer, who also supplies a breather system to hopefully overcome the problem, maybe as a gesture of confidence in his product, he will offer you one or sale or return if it does not cure your problem. Otherwise there is always his “cast iron no quibble guarantee”
On a run, I used to get 27mpg with Weber and ZF but over 30 with Strombergs, if all else fails you could get your Strombergs reconditioned and cure both problems.

A proper V8 breather system looks like this, however this will purge the crankcase of fumes but may not create a vacuum in the crankcase like the Strombergs do which helps stop the oil leaks

What tests would the engine gurus advise are done before fitting a Weber? Is there some test that would pick up the likelihood of oil leaks, the possible need for breathing systems, catch tanks and the like. Just curious, not trying to make waves.

                                Simple enough to do.
Remove the breather pipes from the cam cover to the Strombergs.
Plug the holes into the Strombergs. Alternatively leave the breather pipes attached to the carbs and plug the single hole where you have pulled it off the cam cover. All that is needed is to prevent air being drawn into the carbs.
Attach a length of hose to the breather on the cam cover and poke it down the back of the engine somewhere so any oil fumes pass below the car when moving.

The Stag should start and run normally unless there was a big air leak somewhere in which case your idle speed may be affected.
Drive the car and count the extra leaks

I have to fit an active breather system to all my injected cars to prevent leaks. I have tried my last built engine without one just to see but it is leaking from sump gasket (I think) so I am going to re fit the breather that was fitted previously.
