when I engage or disengage the overdrive I press the clutch pedal like for a normal gear change - it's super smooth then. I read somewhere that it's good for the overdrive too!

Since then it’s settled down a bit, the cone clutch was new so I’m guessing it needed some time. I do tend to drop the clutch for disengagement but not when I engage. Same for my D type on the MGB.

Also made a new strut for a missing section, and discovered that some of the hood frame had been put on was back to front, hence not opening/ closing properly, so sorted that out too.
Now just waiting on right kind of rivits to be able to put the seals on properly.

Drove out to a local PFS which sold 97 Octane fuel and filled up. Whilst about it, I checked the tyre pressures and all fine - except for the spare. This was down to 15psi would have been useless in an emergency. Must check the spare on our daily drivers.

Yesterday I took the Stag to the Bonnets and Wings event at The Spitfire Memorial, Capel-le-Ferne, Kent.
This event has been run for a few years by the Ramsgate Old Motor and Motor Cycle Club. (ROMMCC).The Club has a very diverse group of cars among the Membership, old-new....
The Memorial is a registered Charity, and our £5 entry fee goes to their funds.
Last year we had 104 cars, this year, we were restricted to 60 cars max, to ensure MORE than Social Distancing.
This was my first event/show this year, having virtually been a hermit since March -the only outing of note was a return trip to Faversham Classics, after I found all the clutch fluid had mysteriously disappeared.
Thank you Trevor for sorting it out!

When I was arriving, I was directed to "rarity corner".
Nearest on my right was a Quantum. This is a Ford Fiesta XR2 - based kit car. This one was factory-built, so no "rough edges", and was finished in a Vauxhall metallic turquoise. Lovely little convertible.
On the other side was a yellow/black SAAB Sonnet, a very rare beast indeed. Such a change for SAAB, from their rounded, "beetle-back designs.
However, beside that was a Matsuoka Viewt, which is a Japanese "homage" to the Jaguar Mk2. Based on the Nissan March, or Micra to us, it's like a 2/3 sized Mk.2.
I had actually seen a black one driving around the town last year, but this one MUST be as rare as hen's teeth. It was the ultra-rare convertible, finished in cappuccino brown.
Like the Stag, it has a substantial roll-over bar at the B posts, but no T-bar connected to the screen.
Full leather interior, wood-effect dash/trim (looked very much like wood), again a lovely little car.
(I was once joining a ship in Japan, when I spied a Matsuoka dealer with 3 of the saloons in the window - red, white and black. I asked the taxi-driver to stop, so I could have a look at the mini-sized "Jag Mk 2's".)

There was also a rare 1954 Mercedes drop-head, one husband/wife ownership.
Collected new from Stuttgart, driven round Europe, taken to USA (owner was in the oil business), shown at a late 50's/early 60's Pebble Beach and other "important" USA shows.
Brought back to UK, the car is still with it's original lady owner, and wearing it's age very well, the words "original" and "patina" spring to mind. This car has not been restored, but has had work done to body and mechanicals as it was required. It is regularly brought to shows here in the Southeast, good to see it's not hidden away, but gets regular use.

I was the only Stag there, and it received quite a few compliments, despite being in need of a proper wash and a polish. (Last polished about 18 months ago, but I used Meguiar's polish then wax and it does still have a good shine.) One gent put his head in the window, took a deep breath and said "ah, old car"......the aroma of best BL vinyl ! (The black trim is the original, and is still in great condition.)

On the road home I fell in behind a B reg MG Maestro, in cream with red trim, someone who obviously enjoyed driving "spiritedly"....excellent, no "pootering about".....

A good day, nice to feel some sun again, on probably the only event I'll be going to this year.
            Roll on 2021 !!

            Stay safe,

            Neil.
Just got back from seeing my mother in Ramsgate, did you take your car for a blast down samphire how tunnel?

No, went straight home through Dover - probably would have passed out due to sensory overload from the exhaust note!! The other one is the tunnel on the "Fannett Way", ah, sweet music....
              Stay safe,

travelled though that twice yesterday, when I've been through the Dartford tunnel in the stag the sound has not be to good may be it's because of the amount of traffic.

There was lots of traffic yesterday, no hold up's just a heavy flow, M2,M25,A12, lots and lots of van's and car's must be due to the lack of public transport use, and the ordering on line, I hate the M25 in the stag the lorries look over the top of you when along side, give's you brown pants when they pull out.

Took the Stag out on a round trip, collecting a parcel from M&S, then delivering to eldest so. Both the Border Terrier and our new Labrador puppy come for the ride. Puppy’s first trip in the Stag. Clearly she was comfortable as this is her on our return.

I drove in Mabel from home to a holiday cottage near Faringdon. 90 minutes of enjoyment! We arrived on the edge of dark, I now know that the speedo and rev counter lights aren’t working! The replacement front damper struts are so much better than the originals I’m sorry it took me so long to get around to fitting them!
I’m pleased that I rebuilt the heater, it made short work of any screen misting…

The roads here were near enough dry and it was a beautiful evening so before an 4 weeks off the road my wife and I hit the hill between the top of the ranges, then back towards Corfe through Church Knowle and then back home. A cold but beautiful drive. The Stag is now safely tucked up in the garage until we are next allowed out.

I got my Mk2 steering wheel (Thanks Ray!) a couple of weeks ago but was unable to try it out much due to the seats being removed for refurbishment.

Seats done, out for a drive today and Wow.. what a difference! Feels much sportier now.
