    New Wheels

    Hello to all

I am looking for a set of wheels and have come across a set of minilites that are for a triumph 2000/2500. Can anyone tell me ifthese will fit my Stag?

    Many thanks

    Hi,

If they will fit the 2000/2500 then they will fit the Stag as they used the same original pattern alloys.

Are they 14" or 15"? There is info already on this forum about suitable tyres.

      Thanks for the info.

They are 14" with 175/70 R14 tyres on them. Having not seen my car in 2 monthsare these the same as the standard wheels / tyres?

        Rus,

The 14" wheels are standard diameter, but you will find the tyres are way too small unless you have a high ratio diff fitted. Standard tyres were 185HR14. Later cars were fitted with 175HR14. Handbook states that some were fitted with 185/75 HR14, but it is not clear if this was ever true. 175/70R14 will be approx 2" smaller in diameter than 185HR14. Check here: http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

If you have an automatic this will really get very tiresome (no pun intended ) on the motorway, but will give you a boost at the traffic light grand prix.

You also need to ensure the tyres have the correct speed rating. Triumph specified H-rated tyres which are up to 130mph. The Stag top speed is around 117mph, so T-rated could in theory be used as this is up to 120mph. Many say that as they 'only do 70 mph' then there is no reason why they can't use S-rated tyres (up to 113mph). Tyres are rated on more things than top speed. Weight, cornering loads, etc. come into play. Probably safer to check with your insurance company if fitting anything less than 'H' tyres.

Now this is why i joined such a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks for the info much appreciated,I was planning on fitting new tyres for my own peace of mind. 185/80 definitely 'H' rated again just for peace of mind.

This may sound a little odd but i am looking for a steel wheel as my spare (naturally lazy...if i were to get apuncture the flat would sit in the boot for months and then i would probably get another) with a steel wheel i would want to get it fixed. Is there anything different about the steel wheels or are they a direct swap?

          Again thanks

          Rus

Oh to have such a memory........

Don't do what I did. I bought a set of alloys with excellent 175/70 tyres fitted so I thought "Why not use them for while and get some wear" The car looked good, a bit lower to the ground.

All was fine until I came to a speed bump, I had crossed it hundreds of times and it is the type where you can put the wheels either side of the bump to avoid the worse effects.

The nearside exhaust downpipe hit the bump and flattened it! It turned out an expensive cost saving!

                Rus,

No problem having a steel as a spare. I have a 14" steel with an appropriately sized tyre as a spareeven though I have 15" alloys fitted.Don't forget to carry4 of the steel wheel nuts, and a wheel brace to suit. They are totally different to the alloy wheel nuts. Could be embarrasing otherwise!
