    Buzz

Strange one this, but what can make a buzzing noise behind thedash and it goes up with revs? The car doesn't have to be moving and it does it in neutral and is only there say from 1200 revs to 2000?

Of course I do realise whilst typing this that there will be the predictable comments about Hornets, wasps etc, but along with a rattle (also predictable snake jokes) behind the dash, theses noises are driving me mad. Has anyone cured annoying rattles behind the dash and if so, what were they and suggestions on this buzzing whirring noise, could it be the rev counter.

I await the jokes but any help much appreciated

    Hi Andrew

If your radio is on it is picking up interference from the engine.

Good suggestion and thanks Stu and that's what it sounds like but it hasn't been on.

I am wondering ifrev counters make a noise if faulty? Or maybe voltage stabilizers can as its in that area?

Having been stung twice in the head when i disturbed a hornets nest recently i can confirm they are no joke .

As for the rattles i have identified one in my Stag as being the glove box lid latch but i've not sorted it yet.

        Cheers Steve

Do you have a speaker under the dashtop grill? I have an original speaker in situ but not screwed in, this gives a vibration sometimes.

Thanks Ian, good point but this has suddenly started and is definitely behind the dash. Being that I was looking for this rattle, I recently removed the speaker so can now rule it out. My rattle sounds like its behind the light cluster are to the right of the speaker grill. The first reaction is to bang the speaker grill andthe noise is metallic.I have had the dash out and the speaker and the centre air vent piece but cant find anything loose.

            Thanks for the suggestion

Have you moved the heater controls while the buzz is happening in case it's a flap or cable vibrating? Also it's worth checking the brake pipes and items on the engine bay side of the bulkhead in case something has become unclipped and the buzz is being transmitted through.......

                  Hi Russ

Heater, now thats a good starting point as it would echo behind the dash. Will try that tonight as sometimes it seems worst that other times, so could be the positioning or tensioning on a heater flap

In you ropinion, can a rev counter make a noise?

                  Thanks

I wouldn't have thought so, unless there is some serious arcing going on and my guess is that would affect your engine running too - so I think we could discount that, unless you want to confirm by disconnecting the white/grey wire at the coil disabling the impulse input to the revcounter....

Does your radio have a powered amp, you could still get interference/noise from that even if your radio is off?

Suggest you use the old trick of a piece of tubing to your ear. Moving the open end willenable youto pinpoint thedirection from which your noise is coming.
