Hello all
Well I got my Stag at last. Looked at so many that were real dogs body wise Isopon
P40 must be doing well.
I still had to travel far to fetch it - in Wales. I have to tell you the night before picking it up was the worst night ever! I kept on thinking about what has happened to claral and all of the horrid stories of things that could go wrong!
The car was put up for sale by the wife who’s husband had gone off to work in China, it has had a ground up restoration and bills for every nut and bolt. She decided to put it up as he won’t be coming back. The car was unused for 4 years, covered with a plastic dust sheet which was stuck to the body! This has messed up the paint a bit but still all good.
Her local garage got it going and gave it an MOT, the car was valued at 7K, double what I had in mind be we came to deal, as I told her the car needed work, the Carbs are all over the place, the piston in one has no oil so it’s not running too well.
I have to say the drive back to London was a joy - even with the hard top on. My eyes were glued to that temperature gauge - it didn’t reach over half way 250 miles later!!
When I hit London, 8 miles from my house, it all went wrong! Sitting in a traffic
Jam that wasn’t moving at all - two red lights illuminated on the dash, one of them indicating oil - that was it, I turned off at the nearest petrol station and switched the engine off and checked the oil. It was fine but very thin; the car would not start after that! No over heating problems, it just won’t fire, I called the AA, they said they’d be there in 2 hours…after one hour I got fed up of waiting and rang the woman who I brought the car from.
She told me to plant my foot on the gas while turning it over and it will start.
It did start, so I cancelled the AA and drove home, the carbs are knackered but I knew this before I brought it! The car is very clean and well looked after with a massive
History not changed hands since 1985.
