    Zenith Carb advice needed

    During the restoration process of my Stag I overhauled the two CD175 carburettors and was pleased with the end result and have had little trouble with them over the 3,000 miles I've done since. The overhaul consisted of changing all gaskets and rubber parts, setting up the temperature compensators, changing the fuel inlet valves and setting the float heights. During the commisioning of the car the mixture was set up fine and apart from the MPG being around 20 (the cars an Automatic) I've been happy with their performance.
    However recently I've been suffering the odd times when the engine misses a beat which seems linked to engine temperature and loading - it seems sensitive to being off choke and when under load at moderate revs.

    I think I've traced the problem to carburation, so in a bid to try and fault find the problem I removed the inlet manifolds to look at the air dampers and noticed they seemed to be covered in an oily grimy deposit which may explain why I have to fill the dash pots with oil fairly regularly. Also I've noticed if I lift the dampers there is no discernible change to the engine revs (the manual suggests the engine revs should increase briefly before settling down again) and I wondered whether these two symptoms might indicate the carbs need a more through overhaul or replacing with a reconditioned set.

    Can anyone advise on;

    1. If I decide to overhaul, is it possible to replace the seals which prevent the dashpot oil escaping?
    2. If I decide to buy a reconditioned set who is the best supplier / person to approach?

    Thanks as ever for your advice.

      It's a straight-forward job, even changing the dashpot 'o' ring.

      I did mine with a kit from Burlen's
