Intermittent Fault - indicators and rev counter

I took the car out for an our or so's drive and after about twenty minutes, every time I used the indicator switch, the rev counter died and the indicator tell-tale didn't flash. When I switched the indicators off the rev counter came to life.

All the other dials seemed to work though.

After 5 minutes or so it all started to work again.

Has anyone had this problem, or can point me to another topic, if it has been covered before?

I would have a look at fuse #2 (green wires) which controls indicators, rev counter, brake lights and wipers. Looks like you have a high resistance in that area.

      Just use hand signals
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

Hi guys, checked fuse #2, no problem their. The problem has progressed, now no problem with indicators and brake lights, but rev counter dies and then comes up to around 1,000 revs at any engine speed and jumps to real revs and then dies. It feels to me like a loose connector or dry joint somewhere, but I can't track it down.

The car has had a Lumenition Optronic system for many years and the standard coil.

Sounds like a bad earth behind the panel. Mine has that which stops the clock whenever the key is out of the ignition :-(
I will fix it one day.....

Thanks, I'll check that out. I had the dash out to fit the oil pressure gauge and LEDs in the dials, so I may have loosened something.

                  Just a thought Chris,
I had a similar problem for months and often checked the fuse assuming it was a poor connection. It turned out to be the fuse itself (a dry joint), so when ever I "fiddled" with it the problem went. Eventually the fuse came apart, even I recognised that as a clue, so changed it and I've never had a problem since.
If you haven't changed the fuse, it may be worth giving it a try if only for elimination purposes.
If you have already done that, ignore this.

                  Regards,

                  Brian
