    Flat battery

Hi, my car has been standing for best part of six months, I have just tried to start it to begin rebushing the back end, I charged the battery but its only showing 10.71 volts on a meter, when I tried to start ignition lights come on but theres nothing when I turn key to start position, not even a click, lights stay same brightness, so, do I need to change the battery? and its the same even with jump leads so I presume I have another fault also, tried hitting starter motor with wood and hammer, but hoping its just a bad connection, any thoughts please.
Hope your all enjoying the weather and using your stags, just want to get mine sorted asap.
    cheers

10.7 volts is a dead battery and jumping another battery will just drain that one as well

Try connecting the other battery straight onto the battery connection but not connected to the dead battery

As my namesake says - you need a full 12 volts to start a Stag engine - time to change, but just check also that your Alternator is charging O.K.

Worth investing in a battery conditioner to prolong its life. I have a C-Tek and it's brilliant, highly recommended from this forum.

          (no connection etc)

Is it a wireless charger then

Seriously though Jeff is right, You cannot leave a normal car battery for 6 months without giving it at least a couple of "maintenence" charges. If you just leave it then it will have a very short life. Properly maintained modern car batteries seem to last a very long time. So either make a note in your diary to give it a boost charge every month or so or as Jeff says get a Ctek (other makes are available!) battery conditioner and leave it connected. Or use the car more!

Be great if there was such a thing as a wireless charger. I have a Ctek but can't connect it here in Tenerife as have no garage and there are no electrical output points near where I have to park my car (in a communal car park). When I leave the car for any length of time (eg. visiting U.K., or away on Holiday) I have to remove the battery earth key I have fitted, then I take the car for a run when I get back home.

Not the battery, the conditioner was £40. Battery is a Varta which I bought last year for around £65 with free post. Bought it because the 8 year old battery died after the car was in resto mode for 6months.

There talking about conditioners, not batteries.

It doesn't matter what you pay for one, it's leaving it idle without an occasional charge that kills it. It will Sulphate which will eventually cause the plates to start to short out.

If you can put it on the inside of a window in the garage or car (as long as it gets some daylight) I would recommended this https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/...9BQhoCHl3w_wcB

Don't confuse it with a charger, you must have a reasonably charged battery when you leave it connected. But I have been using this on my M/C for 3 years now and can leave it for weeks on end and the bike starts every time.

I have been using one of these battery conditioners from lidl through the winter and it works a treat and only cost around £15.00.

The posts on this thread about solar powered chargers got me thinking - being as I have no electrical source near where I park my car, and the fact that the Sun shines on my car virtually every day. You mentioned one Ian you use but what do you think of this one which could sit on my dashboard (as long as it is not a temptation to someone to steal it)?
