    Fitting Tomcat front seats.

I know that this has been discussed in the past but I'm still at a loss of how to fit them.
Does anyone have pictures of how to do it, and an idiots guide to fitting them.
The seats are in extremely good condition with all of the parts present.
    Thanks
    Duncan.

ok cant find it so here is what I thought I posted yonks ago. there are many other tomcat seat installs on the site

When I did this I started with the drivers seat. The mountings were originally bolted up so the entire original Rover mounts were removed easily. After a couple of aborted attempts, I came up with the easiest solution. I bought some threaded rod and a bucket of nuts and washers from B&Q along with some angle iron. I drilled out the hole at the back of the stag runner carefully and ran the rod through the side of the rover seats. This then showed where the front mounting needed to go. I then cut a couple of lengths of angle iron which I ran the rear threaded rod through and attached the front stag mounting to. I then got the pitch of the seat set by using the front threaded rod. Once the runners were fixed to the seat base I adjusted the offset by moving the mountings around on the threaded rod. Bit of a fiddle and plenty of removals etc . This pic shows how I did it for the drivers seat.

The passenger seat was effectively the same method but I had to cut more metal off the rover frame. For the passenger seat the mountings were completely different on the rover seats so I had to do a bit of cutting to get things how I wanted them.

The mounting of seats to stag runners was essentially the same as the drivers side
This is the seat all installed

They are tight against the transmission tunnel and will not slide right forwards as the centre console gets in the way. There is just enough room for the seatbelt to get past the seat top next to the b post.

Rear seat base I pulled the cover and foam and trimmed the foam to fit the original stag seat base frame. The seat back I trimmed the metal backing and foams then bolted them to the hoop that runs around the back of the seat. Bit of a fiddle to make sure all the trim lines up.

When I fitted mine I found the seat back was very close to the B post so did away with the hooks that held the seat belt and used seat belt bolts you need to get the seat as near to the tunnel as possible you can skew it a bit to give more seat belt clearance

I struggled and continue to do so, mine are hard against the transmission tunnel

I ended taking mine out and replacing with Mk2 seats.

They were fitted by the PO correctly but I could not get the seat to move close to the pedals to let SWMBO have a drive. Now that the seats are original they get closer to the steering wheel / pedals and allow more space in the back - damn, now she can drive the car - but chooses not to. lol.

I have more room in the back if needed to take passengers which the tomcats struggled to provide.

But I am sure you have thought about all that.

Good luck fitting them (but don't throw or sell those original seats IMO).

                what he said ^^^

I am back to original rear seat but am a tall bugger so dont have to worry about not reaching the pedals. 6 foot 4 oldest son doesnt fit in the back any more

have a set of good original front seats that I picked up for £40 having foolishly sold my originals. These just need foams so I might just crack on with that.

Tomcats are very comfy though so I am not exactly rushing with the original seat refurb

Still fiddling with mine. I too am a long legged bugger. Mrs is the opposite. Kids still young enough to enjoy the back seat views.
Indonhave to tidy my mess up before breakfast. But what else is the kitchen for anyhow once dinner is finished!image.jpg

I'm keen to follow this and similar threads about alternative seating as acquired a cheap pair of Tomcats off Flee bay as an impulse buy for future as not sure which way to go yet (when I get to that stage !) or re-furb /recover original Mk1 seats? Thought they look good and people here saying much more comfy but not sure if can compromise on the positioning issues they seem to cause. WHEN my Stag is back on the road sounds as if wife wouldn't be able to drive it with Tomcats installed as she's only 5ft 2" !

Has anyone tried the fit of Alfa Romeo leather front seats - say from a 3dr 147 to get the tilt forward function? Think I'd best do a thread search as sure they have been mentioned before to save covering old ground.

I've got a set of seats out of a Hyundai Coupe that I'm going to attempt fitting. Not so worried about the fronts, but the rears look as if they're going to be a challenge. Looks like Richardthestag is the 'go to' for tips. Like what I see of the rears in his car.

I tried the 147 3 door seats, unless you cut the bottom of the seat frame out they are about an inch too high - sold them on for £50 profit!

                        They did look good though.

Alfa GTV seats are lower but you'll not get a set of leather ones for less than £250 and they'll be ratty ones at that price as people want them to replace the cloth in the non Lusso cars!

                            Recaro seats here.
They are lower and can go back further (handy being 6'4") than the original seats.
This is possible being Recaro aftermarket seats. Recaro branded seats made for car manufactures mostly have different mountings.

I'm only going with the front seats, the back seat is normally covered by the breezebreaker cover. Im having the front seats dyed today to black.
