This may be of use to someone

My BW 65 inhibiter switch failed when only 2 years old these are selling for crazy money so I decided to take it apart. The contact arms were catching on the terminal contacts and bending them. So I filled between the contacts with JB weld so it was all the same level and the contact arms didn't have to keep jumping over the contacts and get caught bending them. I also put JB weld around the outside of the terminals to reinforce them so they did not come loose. Not pretty but I guess unless I run someone over they wont be seen. Graham

The BW35 and 65 were used by other manufacturers ie Rover 35 in earlier then 65, SDi 3500 and SE series,
Ford Capri and other models used BW35, later and other models used the BW65.

I am on my 3rd switch Graham, and this one seems to be lasting longer than the previous ones (can't remember when I bought the last one from Paddocks).

I did at one time when a previous switch failed by-passed the switch altogether which meant the car could be started in gear.

I paid the price for that though when one day I jumped in the car and switched the ignition on, forgetting I had left it in "Drive".

The Stag started and shot forward and ran into a BMW and a new Astra, causing serious damage to the BMW, but the Stag itself only suffered a bent front bumper and a broken indicator light lens.

After that I decided to fit a new Inhibitor switch as it would be cheaper.

Strange really, I should imagine that there's a lot more manufacturing processes needed to make the 35 switch's and there half the price of the 65 switch.

Maybe it's a different country thing but here later SDi's had the GM auto box with vacuum operated kickdown and fords used there own C3 or C4 autoboxe's as I recall. I can't remember seeing a 70's ford with a BW fitted

Credit where credit is due Graham, this is very well thought out mod. to an item that left a lot to be desired in the design dept.

                Regards

Out here, I couldn't see Ford using a GM part, GM here, is, General Motors Holden or GMH.
Rimmers site, pre 1980's used GM180 after BW65/66
The Rover SDi 3500 1979 model, I had, used a BW35/65(don't remember which, but it didn't like the P76 4.4Liter I had in it), the later SE models (I had 2) did have BW65/66.
The GM auto was the GM180 out here, Holden had it's version called the Trimatic, Horrible gearbox, not even good for a boat anchor.
Ford's auto gearbox used on light /medium power was a BW, on any performance car was the C4 or better the C6, the C6 was unbreakable, even with a worked 351 engine.

The later SD1 3.5 and RR Silver Shadow both used GM180 boxes I have owned both and could find no fault with the box far superior to BW 35 or 65
