Auto electricians !! Not stag related ! Horn

Hi all , I wanted a louder horn for my london taxi tx2, the one on there is ok but not too loud , so I bought a new one off fleabag from china !! Works great when testing directly off my battery ! But when connected to the taxi horn connectors , it refuses to work , just a weird noise from it , remember my existing one works fine but not as loud ! Any thoughts gents !!! Regds graham

I would check the voltage being delivered from the connector, sounds as if there is a volts drop from the battery through the wiring to the connector hence why your existing horn works but quieter, and your new chinese beastie may need lots of power to work !

Are you sure your original one worked at 12v ?

Peter's check should identify this but there are components on many modern cars that work at voltages other than simply 12v.

        Cheers

Yes , maybe Julian , the current probably runs through a relay and maybe loses voltage there perhaps ! Graham

Probably the other way round, I sound to me that you may have to fit a relay to power your new horn. Graham

                Graham,

What I was referring to is that some items on modern cars are designed to run at 5v or other voltages.

                Cheers

This thread reminds me that not only is the exhaust note of the Stag Auto porn, the horn sounds just like a horn should.
I can also recommend the "Round the Horne" CD for those in my age group.
