The new screen arrived to day so I went to paddocks and got a new rubber took it home and started to fit the chrome inserts I have fitted them on the jag before but I don't think I have ever done them on a stag .Having read many horror story's I was expecting a long and difficult job .I soaked the rubber in hot water and fitted it to the screen and held it in place with tape I then set about fitting the chrome and 40 mins later all done .I cant believe my luck I have left the tape in place till tomorrow when I will fit the screen ,hopefully the chromes will stay in place whilst I do it 005.jpg

I tried maybe a dozen times to get the trim onto the rubber, both when fitted to screen and on its own. In the end and after two days I thought bugger it and fitted the screen and rubber to the car so at least I could use it.
Following weekend using some string washing line (dont tell err indoors), lots of car shampoo and a bent screwdriver I fitted the stainless trim to the screen already in the car. 4 hours later and done, one side took just a smidge over the hour the other took so long because the trim was slightly deformed and it took me a couple of attempts to realise.
If i were to do the job again I would most definately get the screen and rubber into the car first.
Well done to OP for getting that far, I was ready to use my 10lb hammer I was so pissed off with it all.Last edited by richardthestag; 2 April 2014, 14:36.Stags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

Done two of these types of screen trims now. Both done after screen was fitted to the car. Used normal car wire to pull the rubber seal onto the car frame (Wore gloves for the second one and plasters on the blisters after doing the first one) Then spent some time carefully easing the trim clip into place using various bent screw drivers. The Spitty wasn't as big as the Stag but its the same type of trim.

Well that will teach me to brag,.. whilst fitting the screen the rubber got caught at the bottom between the scuttle and glass and it made the chrome pop out, the choice was either carry on and fit the screen and try to fit the chromes when the screen was in or remove the screen and possibly break it and start again .I decided to carry on and try to fit the chrome with the screen in .It turned out to be much easier than I thought .I pushed 17 amp wire under the flap this was thick enough to hold it up I then put the chrome on the screen and slid it along so the lip on the chrome was under the flap on the rubber and against the wire then whilst pushing down001.jpg on the chrome I pulled the wire out and success first time,as drew said if you have the right rubber to match the chrome its not to bad a job 003.jpgLast edited by jamcarr2; 3 April 2014, 20:04.MK 2 1977 FLAMENCO RED ,WEBER ,BELT DRIVEN WATER PUMP.

My screen in my rebuild car is fitted without the trim, so I have bought a spare second hand trim set, and will see what wants to fit the best.
I checked my other Stag which had its screen fitted 24 years ago by the body shop and found that ones trim is glued on!
Dave.
