    jokes /videos/etc

what happened to the joke/funny video thread idea ive just read some from back in april last year and they were great humour

    #2
It has been deemed (I believe wrongly) that almost anything that makes some people laugh will upset someone else and so jokes etc are often frowned upon here these days by the powers that be.

This, to me, is similar to the likes of the BBC or TV adverts, where a programme or ad can be enjoyed by millions but it just takes a few complaints to have it dropped or cautioned. Personally I think the level of complaints at which action should be taken should be far higher.

Sadly, I feel this has knocked the great spirit out of this Forum Ok, it's still a good place to get information etc but the fun has gone. It's interesting to see a relative newcomer miss the humour that used to be allowed.

A great pity - but who knows, maybe a more enlightened view will shine through in the future

    Bring back the banter

    Cheers

    Julian

Well said Julian and I agree 100%. I personally think those that moan at and report the Jokes should get a life and if they don't like it don't read them. there is not enough humor around nowadays to lighten things up a little and as I have said before I have seen nothing posted on here that you wouldn't see on the TV

Guys, no point railing at the situation, it is what it is. The Forum gets along just fine in the absence of material with the potential to offend. Plenty of other places on the 'net to cut and paste jokes all day long if you so wish.

If the situation here changes, you will be the first to know.

Not sure I agree Wilf. I'm a believer that any club or association should provide the facility for its membership to express its opinion on aspects of that club/association. There's a section of this forum that would like to see jokes/humour (me being one of them) and a section that does not. The debate will rage, but that's no reason not to have it. Just my two penneth.

That's the point Wilf, Gets along, not the Forum it used to be

I understand those points too, but I also understand the point in the "forum rules" about "letting sleeping dogs lie". Worth reading.

I have read through all the recent threads and posts about jokes and I have never understood why someone would wish to post jokes on a car forum, so I'm with Wilf on this one. Some people are "joke carriers" and just can't stop themeselves telling them. Some "joke carriers" don't seem to know what joke to tell and to whom and when, especially risqué ones. What makes one person fall about laughing could be offensive to another. If you know your audience, that's fine, but on this forum you don't. So saying, there is nothing wrong with a bit of banter here and there on various posts. I don't think that I have seen a joke on this forum that I have not received at some time by email, with most of them not very funny.

When I joined the forum, there was a separate joke section which I never bothered to look at. As I recall, it was shut down because of the very issue mentioned above - complaints were received from people who deemed some jokes to be offensive to them for whatever reason.

I'm now off to work underneath the Stag, where I now spent most of my life!

Take your point Don, but you said it yourself there was a section that was for jokes you never looked at.

Maybe if the prissy amongst us were to have taken the same course as you and not looked at it if they weren't interested in humour then the remainder of the forum could have remained free of humour, the people who liked a joke could look post and enjoy and the status quo would have existed.

Unfortunately it seems that some enjoy complaining about being offended and seek ammunition by going somewhere they say they are not interested in...

As said, the spark has gone from this forum due to whinging winnies and over zealous moderators, it's definitely not the great forum it was which is a real shame.

If someone posts a thread relating to gearbox overhaul of which I am not interested, I simply don't read it; I don't read it then complain that it is boring.

We are told joke threads are not allowed yet Don has just said there used to be and I still can't see in the rules that it is not allowed, if you haven't got a sense of humour, don't read them.

Other forums I belong to (and I am a moderator on one) have joke threads and there never seem to be any problems.

                        Just my opinion.

We are all different Don, and it is a car forum but also has a social aspect to it. I have met and made many friends from here and that's what makes it great, but as you say you choose not to read them. That's great but some like to and are denied that.

                          Enjoy playing with your car.

Have been a member of this Forum for quite a while, and have to say I think some of it's "sparkle" has now faded due in part to the attitude of a small minority.
A little bit of humour brightens the day, and if this Forum were to become totally devoid of comments and "funnies" that make most of us smile, then I would be using it less and less. Isn't there a saying that humour makes the World go round (or something similar). I may be getting on in years, but I still enjoy a good laugh now and then.

I think it's money makes the world go round, well Liza Minelli said so.

                              Echoed my point exactly Terry.
