Given the ever increasing price of petrol is it possible to convert a stag to run on LPG?

Now over to the experts for there opinions

Ive seen several that have been converted , The problem seems to be where to put the gas tank , Ive only seen them in the boot and a stag boot is small at the best of times.

Never spoke to the owners but have seen it.

I'm sure it's a saving that as it becomes more popular will be screwed by this and the next government until there is no advantage.

You are probably correct. Diesel used to be the cheap fule to have and now it is more expensive than petrol.

However, given that LPG is a much cleaner fuel than either petrol or diesel they will have a hard time justifying increasing taxes on it.

I've just got a Rover EFI engine as a longterm spare in case my triumph engine blows .LPG came fitted to it so i was initially going to fit it but after seeing how heavy the tank was ,the fact that it would have to be certificated at extra cost for the insurance, the lose of space,LPG has 20% less energy unless you play around with different ignition timings.Power is going to be reduced even in petrol mode due to the inlet reduction size at the gas injection ring.and finally i only do about 3-5k miles a year ,i reckon it's not worth it .If you had to buy the kit from new i definitely think it wouldn't be worth it unless you going to do some serious mileage.one more thing i believe you have to do about 15% of driving on petrol to keep the top end lubricated properly.

There was a diesel Stag in a magazine somewhere once. A diesel engine is still viable if you use veg oil with the diesel. 50p a litre in bulk from a C&C mixed 50-50 with normal diesel = 85p a litre. Even if you are completely legit and own up to what you're doing to the tax man, you still come in well under a quid a litre. You do of course have to put up with the stigma of a car sounding like a bag of nails and smelling like chip shop.

Just another small thing, is if you use car abroad, unless they have changed the rules you are not allowed to use the Channel Tunnel. No LPG vehicles.
