Would a blow in exhaust have negative effect on running of car?

I discovered a few weeks ago a blow in the exhaust by the back box. I was advised on here to get it sorted quickly but I never got round to it

Its probably got worse but not had chance to fix it and plan to this weekend.

Would a blow in the exhaust have any effect on performance, efficiency and the general running of the car?

Hiya, I would have said no, not that far back, not to any noticeable degree, but it certainly does need a repair.
Are you going to change your mind and hang on to the old girl ? Go on -- you know you really want to. Martin.

I don;t to be honest just going to give her a little TLC now I;ve been paid, change coolant hoses new plugs etc

asa daily driver she gets on my nerves and having done about 500miles last week I wished I had something a bit more motor way friendly

Its from the leaking oil filler cap I had. It took a good while for me to source a better one which resolved that leak

Its left a big mess on my drive which I need to clean actally

Mostly definately yes! A properly set up exhaust system will result in a "pulse" wave through the system. The trick is to have this exit pulse occur at the same time the exhaust valves open.

A leaking system will cause poping on the engine overun, Owing tosucking in air and resulting in the ignition of any un burnt fuel.

            Shaun.

Gum Gum is fine for a quick fix but does become brittle and crack. Get some high temperature silicon, plumbing suppliers will have it. Goes under the name of "plumba" temperature range is from -40 up to 1200 celsius.

                  oops just done it!

Tried tightening the nut first but didn;t make a difference. a fair amount of black spray comes out of the whole now thatI;ve been sat under it watching it. I;ve already gum gum'd it. sounds quieter now and nothing coming out.If it goes again anytime soon I;ll get the silicone you suggested
