Are you affected by this at all? Here's hoping you are not, and you and your family are safe and dry.

      Hi Al,

Thanks for the message, yes we are all fine, we have had alot of rain but that is not uncommon for tropical Queenland at this time of year.

The worst of the weather and flooding is over 1000 miles south of me. The devastation and loss of life is unbelievable.

Nige' (Pommie Stag) livesnear the area affected by the worst floods but I think he is on higher ground.

      regards to all,

      Raoul

We seem to forget the vast distances involved down there. The news was saying the other day that the area affected was a large as France and Germany combined. Haven't checked the maps to see if that was true, but it is a huge area.

Glad to hear you are OK. Our hearts go out to those affected.

Hi Raoul and all the Uk chaps,

We are all fine on the Gold Coastmissed all of it so lucky! the whole place is completely soggy but holding together.

I went northside (Brisbane (yesterday)) a place called palmwoods in the sunshine coast hinterland and got trapped on the return for 5.5 hours whilst the main (only motorway with no detour) road south was closed until the high tide went down. Then they could only open one carriageway

This pales into grey with the poor chaps that have suffered in the Ipswich and Darling Downs about 13 dead as i write this if you goggle Toowoomba and check out some of the vids it is truly horific...

Today, south Brisbane Grey street, Ihad to work close to the river about 800 meters no water on the road but by the time i left approx 1.5 hrs the water was at the top of the wheels of the Hilux! As i write this the pathway i was stood on to take the bridge photos is now submerged by about 1m...

            Cheers

            Nige'

              Hi Raoul, Nige,

Glad to hear you are both ok.

The pictures on the news last night were something else - especially the speed with which the water was moving/rising.

              Stay safe & dry guys

              Al.

One thing after another out there - hows the wind Raoul?

Looks quite close to where you are this time - are you ok?

                Al.

                  Hi Al,
We are all safe and well. The "eye" of the cyclone crossed about 60miles south of us. That area is devastated the trees are uprooted and turned to matchwood, 90% of the buildings are destroyed. Fortunately no fatalities. We can't return home until we get the all clear from the police. Our neighbors say there are a few trees down the pool looks like minestrone soup. Thanks to you and every one else for their thoughts and messages of support.
Regards to all Raoul and family

Good to know you are all safe and well. Awesome is a much overused word but its the only one to describe your situation. Good luck with the return home, to your property, work, surroundings etc.

Hi Raoul, hope your stay away from home isn't too uncomfortable, I don't know what Queensland did in a previous life, but this seems a bit unfair.
Funny how you can grow to care about someone you've never met ! Stay well mate,to you and yours ! Martin.

                              Hello All,

We've now returned home, no damage at all, a slightly flooded garage, lots of branches and leaf litter to clean up. Cairns and it's surrounding suburbs have been very lucky, everyone says we've "dodged a bullet".

The expected storm surge did not occur so there has been no flood damage either locally.

I feel for the communities further south, our good fortune has been their nightmare, there are peoplerecounting stories, of wind noise like jet engines and their roof being ripped of while they were sheltering inside covering themselves with mattresses to protect themselves.

Still no reports of fatalities which is a miracle.

Once again thanks for your kind words and offers of support, Martin, my wife burst into tears when I read her your message.

                              It's been a very stressful 36 hours!

                              All the best, Raoul
