I’m a new member to the SOC, probably classed as a senior member due to age! Always wanted a Stag since I was 17, many years ago (how many times do you hear that at shows!), bought this last year after eventually admitting defeat trying to get in and out of an Austin Healey Sprite and it’s everything I dreamt it would be!

This Stag was delivered new in Sydney in December 1977, being within the last couple of hundred produced (LD45597AK); BW65 transmission and original colour Carmine Red with Beige interior. For reasons known only to somebody(!?) I bought it in late 2019 from a person in Hobart, Tasmania, and had it shipped to me here in Auckland NZ. It soon became clear to me that the car had been molested throughout much of its life and I briefly considered flicking it on and taking whatever loss - however sanity (lunacy?) prevailed and I got stuck into stripping it down with the objective of restoring it to some kind of glory. 3+ years on, with the help of numerous other parties and many $$$ it is a living thing, though still a work-in-progress. Bare metal paint job (acid-dipped), engine rebuilt including re-bore and new pistons (+20) and many other new components, new seat covers, door cards, cubbies etc. (sourced from Aldridge), fascia refurbished (vacuum-forming) and re-veneered woodgrain panels. Etc., etc...... It's pretty much standard apart from electronic ignition (fitted by a previous owner) and the colour, which is VW Cardinal Red (close in shade to Carmine, but metallic). And, of course, the two-tone interior.
